Hello John, you will easily realize, if you read the hundreds of patient success stories here in the forum, that good quality generics are just as efficient as brand name medications in treating Hepatitis C. If bureaucracy is going to make it difficult to get that extra insurance bottle of Harvoni for your possible high fibrosis level, I urge you to contact FixHepC and source it from them. Best of luck with your treatment.

Congratulations Tigerfan, truly remarkable that after 40 years you’re undetected after 4 weeks of treatment. Keep at it for the remaining 8 weeks, and looking forward to your SVR announcement.

That’s really great Redhead, congratulations and onto SVR. It’s remarkably easy to get rid of Hepatitis C now, if only more patients are like you and decide to take matters into their own hands instead of waiting on insurance companies who will very rarely spend 100,000 USD on a patient. Hopefully posts like yours will help show them how to get their life back.

Hi Jeff, glad to her of your re-treatment success, that’s really great. I believe that treatment failure with the new medications (and their good quality generics) is less than 10%, which is amazing, especially compared to the older medication failure rate of 60%.

Hello Tracey, I think the easiest way to get a prescription from Dr Freeman is to see him on GP2U, the Australian online doctors platform. You can easily book an appointment there and once you do, you can upload all your test results to your account and Dr Freeman will examine them before you see him. He’ll talk to you by video conference for about 20 minutes, then you will find a prescription in your GP2U account files soon after you’re finished. The cost is about 70 usd. If you’re interested, here is how to do it :
1. Register at https://gp2u.com.au/ , or download the GP2U app and register.
2. Log in and upload your test results to your file area (any format is OK).
3. Book an appointment time and select Dr James Freeman.
If you have any inquiries, you can contact GP2U directly, their email is: admin@gp2u.com.au

Congratulations Kaju on starting your treatment, Harvoni is a really excellent medication for GT4. As for diet during treatment, you should eat a normal varied diet. As a general rule, provided you don’t eat the same thing every single day, you are unlikely to run into any issues. Just be careful to not take antacids with Harvoni® or Epclusa® generics.

Congratulations Sharmon on your decision to get treated and to take control of your life. We hear from patients all the time that within just one week of starting their treatment, they feel much better than they have for years. Please also remember to drink plenty of water and to get plenty of rest, best of luck.

Congratulations Panthyra on starting your treatment, that’s really great. Within a week of starting, most people will feel better than they have for years.
After starting treatment, little monitoring is required. The most important test is the viral load test : ‘HCV RNA PCR (Quantitative)’. It’s recommended to have it at 4 weeks into treatment (the virus should be undetected by then), then again at 12 weeks, and finally at 24 weeks (If you are undetected at 24, you’re cured).
Your body does not typically need supplements. A normal diet consisting of a variety of foods is sufficient. While most supplements will be harmless, and will not interact with your medications, they have not been studied, so it’s recommend you do not take them during treatment. If you insist, take them at the opposite end of the day to the time you take your medication.

Great work Hazel! Excellent original idea to spread the word about the need for Hep C testing. The tattoo looks great on you too

Hello Tigerfan,
I don’t know the answer to your portal hypertension self-diagnosis, perhaps other members with more medical knowledge can answer. However, I read a post by Dr. James in which he said that once the patient is cured and the body is free of the Hep C virus, there is strong evidence that the liver starts to heal itself and starts reversing the fibrosis on its own. Not sure if there are supplements that aid in the process.

Welcome to the forum Yugen88, and best of luck on your treatment journey. I’m sorry but I don’t know if there is an easy way to find out if the Mylan medication you’re receiving is authentic or not. The only suggestion I have is to send 1 pill to FixHepC and they will test it for you. I know that they provide this service for a fee. I’m sure that if other forum members can help you, they will reply too.

Welcome to the forum Tigerfan, and congratulations on starting your treatment. Epclusa is a breakthrough drug, way better than Interferon in terms of efficacy and side effects, you should be very optimistic. The forum here is full of great people who are very supportive.
