    Bloot.
The mixture I use ,in favor of alcohol,is to put in a blender,A handful of spinach leaves(for iron),a handful of kale leaves, paw paw, banana, water melon and pineapple, with a couple of tablespoons of yogurt and water and mix it all up.That gives me about 5 glasses a day.I put in the pineapple because my partner does not like it,and it stops her stealing my mix.Probably a good idea not to drink it just before bedtime,it is high in fructose..But with this mix you are getting just about every vitamin and mineral you are ever going to run short of,and you”ll really fire up on the track.

And we were able to continue drinking the next night as usual (yes – I am stupid in that respect, but hey..I am who I am)
I ride a mountain bike and can take some good hits, but don’t seem to bruise excessively and recover normally

The biggest negative for me is that riding bikes goes with drinking beer, so for the next 6 months at least i need to deal with that

Bloot You can’t do it mate. When you are on tx its like trying to put a fire out with water and pour petrol on it at the same time ,especially if you already have liver damage.
I ride a mountain bike too.I live just down the road from a track where the World Championships are held.I do a circuit nearly every morning.Very few of my riding mates drink, and none smoke cigarettes. You can get hooked on the taste of water.
I had a great wine collection before I was diagnosed.I haven’t touched it since. What were once cheapies are now pricey vintage wines.I give them to friends for xmas presents.Get into fruit smoothies, they can become very addictive.

Zhuk,Your GP is a cowardly whimp. As for saying she doesn’t know enough about the medications, thats crap, and she shouldn’t be practicing medicine. It’s got nothing to do with her insurance.
Doctors have a computer on their desk with instant access to all the latest “How to treat”Information. And they are all very aware of the generic scenario that is happening.
One suggestion I might make, is to find out which doctors members of the Gay community who have HIV are going to.They have a knack of finding out who is genuinely on their side.
Generally such doctors are likely to be more compassionate, better informed, and are less likely to be adverse to generics.
Many go to conferences on HIV which often include HCV as treatment mechanisms have a lot in common.
Just look for a new GP Zhuk.Sit down and explain what you intend to do,and if there is one iota of hesitation on their part,
get up and walk out.You will find the right one sooner of latter and be very grateful when you do
    Good luck.

There is one symptom I forgot to mention, and I note no-one else has.My sex drive over the last few
years plummeted from normal plus to zero minus.I note it is listed amongst the known symptoms in the book..
I wonder if others have experienced it,or if it just a topic that is taboo.

I think it’s time to start reporting doctors who lie to their patients to their regulatory body.

I couldn’t agree more Alsdad ,although just naming them might be suffiecient. The regulatory body would side with them.
But in essence they are” well meaning killers”,slaves to the propaganda line put out by HepC Aust ,and doctors receiving research grants from Big Pharma etc.or whatever else overseas.
It appears more and more doctors that were once reticent are changing their views, and all encouragement should be accorded them.

Re symptoms which is the essence of this thread.
I did not really take them seriously until 3 days into the sof when they dissappeared like magic.Muscle aches, sleep disturbances,a nightime pain in the chest once or twice, which I thought was a heart attack and wasn’t .Bouts of tiredness, a chronic toothache once that my dentist could find no reason for and wrote me off as neurotic.I just thought they were all part of the ageing process and to cut the crap and live with it.
I have overall never felt so good since starting tx although the riba drags me back a little.
I had the” wait wait “from my GP,and had to bully him into writing some scripts. He now freely writes them out for others and is a convert.
If you can afford it,there is absolutley no sense in waiting. If they were put on the PBS tomorrow there would still be a long queue, form filling and more waiting.

this was for sof dac sim,but the concept was to treat people with advanced fibrosis over a 12wk period and did not include riba.
The same concept would probably apply to a sof led sim regime.

I seriously wonder whether Daclatasvir (for G1 at least) would be as good over the short course. It has a higher log kill than Ledipasvir.

Hopefully some answers to that question will come from the AASLD conference in mid nov.Like you I will continue to take my sof dac riba for at least 12 wks in the meantime. When you look at the size of some of the subcategories in these results the numbers are sometimes
very small. One must remember in trials like this one of the objects is to overcome the obstacle of the absurd costs Big Pharma are demanding. This criteria does not apply to the same extent when using generics.

This is getting slightly of the main topic of this discussion but the subject has come up in the last few posts and may be of interest. Please em and aldad feel free to transfer it elsewhere.

    Re Ribavirin and exercise.
Post by some unknown guy on another site

I am 5 weeks into Sovaldi/Ribavirin treatment and all is going very well. I have been undetected since week two and I feel fine. I am cross country skiing in the Vermont mountains 3-4 times a week and feel good, maybe a little off but then I have been skiing quite a bit lately. I was out yesterday with a bunch of guys 10-20 years younger than me and I was the one waiting at the top of the climbs. The nurse practitioner at the hepatology department said I should exercise all I want. The nurse who calls me every two weeks from the specialty pharmacy called today and said I should be vigilant because if I become anemic I wouldn’t want to stress my heart muscle. I had an echocardiogram two weeks prior to starting treatment and was given a clean bill of health. I have always been active so skiing this much is not new to me. My hemoglobin went from 15.5 at baseline to 14.1 at 2 weeks to 13.8 at 4 weeks. 13.7 is the upper limit of anemia so I am close. I have read that hemoglobin tends to level off by 4 weeks. So I am wondering if I should be cutting back on the exercise or if I should continue. It seems to me I would feel winded and weak if there was a problem. If that did happen I would of course stop immediately. Anybody have an opinion?  I am not due for another blood draw for three weeks.

    Reply by a medico
As long as you feel well enough and have no other medical restrictions you should stay as active as you can.
Anemia is hemoglobin <10 g/dL. You are not close to being anemic.
Anemia is a condition in which the body does not have enough healthy red blood cells to supply oxygen to body tissues. The symptoms of low hemoglobin and anemia are fatigue and loss of energy which can be combined with shortness of breath. So some people can feel a lack of energy as their hemoglobin get lower. They don't have to be technically anemic.
Since you are not taking peg-interferon you only have a small chance of becoming anemic taking treatment.
In the trials 650 subjects received SOVALDI + ribavirin (RBV) combination therapy for 12 weeks. 250 subjects who received SOVALDI + ribavirin combination therapy for 24 weeks.
Data from the Sovaldi/Ribavirin clinical trials showed only 8% became  <10 g/dL while treating for 12 weeks. 6% became  <10 g/dL while treating for 24 weeks and
The most common adverse events (≥ 20%) for SOVALDI + ribavirin combination therapy were Fatigue and Headache. NOT anemia. Anemia was the 6th most common side effect after Insomnia and then Pruritus (itching).

To learn more about Sovaldi/Ribavirin treatment read the label to learn about treatment and common side effect from treatment or consult with your hepatology NP.
Sovaldi label can be found here.

But let’s not forget that for most “westerners”, $1000 for a treatment might finally seem like a fair price, but this is still hopelessly out of reach for many people around the world… So, to really bring prices and barriers down, the more manufacturers the better!!

Veroro. This is so true.We westerners on these forums have a tendency to be like kids in lolly shop with these generic prices.
Every year in India thousands of farmers commit suicide because they cannot afford to pay $500 for the seed for next years crop. Its the same in many places in Asia. There won’t be any true justice for many of these people until the price comes down to something near the cost of making the pill.
