I came for a visit here after a long absence not knowing I was going to the source for exactly what I needed (unknowingly). Dr James you are some kind of magic and I thank you again and again.
After treatment is night and day. I finished treatment 15 months ago and was just today thinking of the colossal mental and physical difference, from all those years before, and these 15 months after.
Sometimes I feel like thanking the manufacturer! it really is an astonishing difference. I had some side effects and I think most of it stemmed from fear and anxiety. I also felt sort of “stoned” for the length of the treatment which was uncomfortable.
Drink lots of water, when you feel like crashing (if you do), crash and rest. Eat healthily!Hello Hopeful,
Congratulations on starting treatment. Mavyret wiped the virus away from my system pretty fast, and it will work for you too.
I was so scared when I started my eight weeks of treatment.
I had all sorts of side effects and remember clearly, at the beginning of the treatment I did not feel like myself, I felt weird, the unknown, the expectations. I even had a serious panic attack!
I also had insomnia but I had the luxury to be in bed really early, as early as 7 pm sometimes, due to feeling extremely tired. In retrospect that fueled insomnia because I would wake up at 1 am and unable to fall back asleep.
Having four children to take care of, is definitely a challenge, but, in the bright side, you are so busy that hopefully, it will allow your mind to distance from the constant thought of “I am taking these powerful pills, I am not feeling well, what’s gonna happen next?” even if for a minute.Drinking plenty of water helped much.
Eat green and colorful live food.
It will get better : )Hi, Josie 64,
I was 8 weeks on Maviret and I can relate to your symptoms. I felt tired throughout treatment except for a few good days when I had a very, very high energy level.
But for most of the I was so tired I was in bed every day by 7 pm.Hang in there, it is so worth it.
Water intake is important yet it did not help with all that tiredness.
Some people feel the tiredness starts to diminish after week 3.
Hi,
Just wanted to update the ones who helped and the ones who are going to be helped (in treatment) and, of course, Dr James!
At the 3 months mark EOT this is where I am : )As of now I do not have a gastro because he left my insurance plan so I had to ask my primary Dr. to oder the tests.
It’s ok, because in 3 months I will be undetected, god willing, and will not have to put my feet in another lab for a long time!I still itch and for that I get hives, I always thought this was a symptom of hep C.
Now I feel it could be something else. And at least for a while, I am fine with it too.
All of you were a big support to me.

Approaching the 3 months mark, doing BW on the 20th.
Can’t wait!In the last 3 to 4 weeks have been itching, on arms, legs, stomach.
As a result get hives like I did before tx.
has anyone experienced the same after treatment?Thank you Dr James for your words of support and for all the times you took the time to write me.
It gives me hope I will achieve 12SVR.
I will certainly contact you if I don’t.Gratefully,
CarlaHello Everyone,
I am two days short of finishing my 8 weeks with Mavyret.
I am concerned with the treatment outcome because of my eight week only prescription ,even though I was undetected at week 5 or even earlier (my first BW was done at 2weeks and a half) and back then I was <15 detected.
Sometimes my skin itches and I get a red large blotch (?) it happened yesterday...
Also has anyone experienced a very bloated stomach?
For the last two weeks my stomach gets extremely bloated especially in the evening.
Has anyone experience the same during treatment?Hello All,
Just an update to share VL Quantitative
Nov 18 – 3 weeks into treatment with Mavyret . <15 detectable
Dec 3- 5 1/2 weeks undetectable
What a relief to know that the 2 weeks I got left are re-enforcing what is already gone!As for side effects, to me this has been a roller coaster of sorts.
I experienced thus far:
insomnia
lack of apetite
itching
fatigue
brain fog
Never enough to make me stop.I still have two more weeks to go!
Few good days intercalated with sh**** ones
I got approved for 8 weeks only
Thank you Dr James, you have been so helpful and generous with your knowledge and time.
Thank you to all of you for your support.
I will post results 3 months past EOT (Dr will not run more tests until then)Hopefully my posts will be of some help to people starting tx with Mavyret.
Thank you Dr James,
In 2001 I did interferon with ribavirin but could only endure 2 months if I well remember.
I am F1/F2 as of beginning of treatment.
Do you reckon I have good chance to clear at this rate?Hi Dr James,
Thank your message. I realized that I was having an alergic reaction to Lexotan, a pill I have used in the past for insomnia. I found out I had a few and used them. Well that is sorted out. Now, I just got the BW test results I did on November 15th,exactly 21 days after starting with Mavyret.
I am a bit confused as to (detected or not detected???) but all in all it looks like this is working very, very, very well! This is how it goes
HCV RNA QUANTITATIVE REAL TIME PCR
Performed using real time Polymeras chain reaction
Reportable Range:15 IU/ml to 100,000,000 IU.ml
(1.18 Log IU/ml to 8.00 IU/mlVALUE HL REFERENCE RANGE
HCV RNA QUANTITATIVE REAL TIME PCR <15 DETECTED A NOT DETECTED
HCV RNA QUANTITATIVE REAL TIME PCR <1.18 DETECTED NOT DETECTEDAST 17
ALT 8UREA NITROGEN 6 (out of range)
Is it detected or NOT detected?
Dr James, do you think I will be in the clear at the end and stick to the 8 weeks protocol or should I reinnforce and extend to 12 weeks or 10 weeks.
This is working right.
21 days later?I appreciate your dedication and kindness in being of support here since I started my treatment, I truly do.
Gratefully,
T
Hello,
Maybe someone can help me understand what is up with all this intense itching.
I didn’t even have ANY itching for the last year or so and this is all over now.
I read most people felt decreased itching (?)
Is this a bad sign? I am two days shy of completing first month.Hi Hazel,
I know, you are right, this is a breeze even with the side effects. But I am saying that because today I had very good day!
Eating well and drinking lots of water.
Exercise not so much, but if I continue to feel like I did today, yes!Hello Songbird,
Thank you for your message.
This medication is so strong. I feel all or most medicine prescribed should be individually dosed.
We are “all different” is it not this, the mantra of the medical world ?I drink lots of water. Probably was drinking way to much water at the beginning of treatment.
I actually had to cut a little as I believe I was lacking electrolytes.Today I had an amazing day! Energy and clear head! feels so good.
Hope I can say the same tomorrow : ))Hi Mar and thank you for your reply, input… and… OMG that link!!
Now I am leaning to wanting to do 12 weeks!I was approved only for 8 weeks only, and yes I did interferon and Ribavirin, if only for two months.
My Dr. does not listen. He basically looks at the computer.
I tried to get Harvoni since I did not have mutations therefore not needing to take inhibitors.
No one listens. The rule now is to give Mavyret to all.
Not sure if Mavyret is the ideal medication for my case.
I am far from being an expert, I am just a patient who has acquired a little knowledge. My viral load at the very start of Mavyret was 1.900000, but just a month prior was 3.900000!
I am still waiting for tests (first since starting tx) and anxious to know.
