Hi Erica,
You had high iron levels in your blood for a long time, in that situation joint-stiffness is possibly hemochromatosis induced arthropathy. Best to check with your physician, but others on this site may have other advice. It is so good to read about how well you’re looking after yourself with nice food, good hydration and regular excercise. It is inspiring! Keep on keeping on.

Kia kaha e hoa ma!7 October 2017 at 6:15 am #26913Yeah it’s true about the iron levels. Just the timing is weird. I just started getting therapeutic phlebotomies right before treatment, which is lowering my iron levels. And I’ve been specifically eating foods which aren’t high in iron, not eating anything which increases the absorption of iron, etc. So if that were the cause then it should be getting better. But it almost immediately got worse when I started the treatment. So that’s the confusing part. I need to identify the cause of it so I can fix it. At 4 weeks I’ll be getting more blood work done. Perhaps that will shed some light on this. I wish I could afford to just test like EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD. haha. Those fancy nutritionist blood tests are expensive! I’ll be getting health insurance in November, so then I can go crazy on the blood tests if I want to.

Yes it is probably the medication, given the timing.
There is a lot going on at the beginning of treatment and things usually settle.
It is probably gout. Although the big toe is the common joint it can affect any joint.
Getting your uric acid levels checked would be a good idea.
Non steroidal anti inflammarories would be worth trying. Voltaren is my go to one.
YMMV

More soon.
