Harvoni and arthritis symptoms 8 years 11 months ago #2431

Is there any documentation available on arthritis symptoms while taking Harvoni. I am day 10. Initially no symptoms then day 5 within an hour of taking Harvoni I started to get arthritis symptoms which worsened over the next few hours. By the morning they had all but gone. On day 6 I had a similar response but more intense pain and took an anti inflammatory, the next day was a repeat. Day 8 I didn't take anything and the symptoms were still there in the morning, although not as bad, next day the same. The weird thing is the pain is in different parts of my body each day. My question is has anyone else had a similar experience and how long should I expect this to go on?

Hi Sandy,
I wonder if this is worse if you have suffered joint pain pre treatment? Or if it's age related ? Maybe condition of liver too and immune response pre treatment?
Just a thought.

It does seem to make sense to me, that if the virus is causing joint pain, then the meds may cause the same response while attacking the virus as the virus tries to 'fight back'? It would be interesting to see which patients have this joint pain on treatment and which don't.

I have suffered terrible joint pain, mostly around pelvis, lower back and hips, so suspect I may be a candidate for more of this when I treat. I found good quality Epsom salts in a warm bath was the only thing that helped at the time and a Magnesium tab from a quality manufacturer. I'm not sure if these are permitted while on treatment and would love to know re that. Also a sauna helped.

Are your joints red and inflamed or is it just joint pain?
(Edit) btw I took an anti-inflammatory when I had joint pain , it made me so ill, I will never go near one again.

The first thing I did tonight after taking my medication was get into an Epson Salt bath - I didn't get pain in my body, only a sore throat. Will be interesting to see how I feel in the morning. I have had joint pain in the past and have normally treated with antii inflamatories, along with a nexium, but don't really want to take anything if I can help it while on treatment. Hopefully my body is adjusting to the treatment.

Sorethroat

Joint pains

Body aches

Think the body is adjusting

All of those symptoms sound like the 'usual' viral symptoms one gets with a flu. I also believe they are like a poisoning in the body. Whether it is the virus or the drug who knows but something major is going on.

On day 7 or so of my Sof/Dac treatment I developed severe joint pain and could barely walk or even sit up. That all passed after about 4 days, and since that time just one knee has remained active (on week 9 now) I have had no joint pain in my body to speak of up till then.

Hi Ann Bee, This was how I was diagnosed, severe joint pain , I could barely walk and hardly sit up, in pain at night to, lying down.
Pain was pelvic region, lower back, hips, whole of pelvic region , at times hard to tell where pains were coming from.
I still have a mild form of it now some nights.
Can't say I'm looking forward to going through that again I must say.
Well done for getting through it and wishing you well.

Sorry to hear about your aches and pains.

I have had the opposite experience on sof/dac - they have virtually disappeared. Hope it continues.

I've had general aches and pains in joints and muscles for years, and except for persistent right shoulder pain, had not associated them with liver. Though it was just life, and ageing.

Day 26. For many days now the pain is missing. (But not missed!) Haven't slept this well for a long long time.

Still feel some stinging/grabbing/pressure in liver. The battle rages on ... slowly but surely slaying the dragon.

I experience foot pain pretty constantly and have struggled to find shoes that would help me alleviate the pain. Well, i have to say that I have found them. They fit well. They have reduced my heel pain as well as my fasciitis symptoms. I can walk much easier and longer now . So happy I got these shoes! orthofeet do the job!

For people who can't afford orthotics a well-fitted pair of running shoes are the next best thing and can typically be found almost anywhere.
YMMV
