The 2016 flu vaccines have just arrived in town, can anyone tell me if it is advisable to have a shot whilst on treatment - I'm week 10 of 12.
many thanks :)

Hi mags, I myself decided not to do the flu Vac while I'm on treatment. I've just finished my 24 week treatment & my body has been battered. So I'm crossing my fingers & not doing the flu Vac as I had a bad reaction last one a had.
Also Mags, hang in there with the RIBA , I found it very hard to cope with. The anaemia you have to watch but I just got through on 1200mg. The mood change thing "RIBA MONSTER" is very real side effect & I just locked myself away from the world when RIBA got out of the box.
Good luck & the end is in sight.

From north of the equator:
We didn't have a flu season where I live and it was not a big topic in the national news. As a school teacher and someone who the flu really nails, I got the shot, 2 months before treatment though.
Happy for you!

thankyou for the encouragement Micheal-Henry :)
and for the flu advice mgalbrai :)

Apparently there has been a few severe reactions to this years flu vax here but it could just be the batch.
I will wait until I finish treatment and for the fresh batch to arrive in town.

Hi magpie,

The Riba will be the cause of the mushiness/forgetfulness stuff. I'm on week 21 now and noticing a bit of distantness or difficulty focussing when interacting with others, if you are the same it's probably a good idea to let those close to you know what the problem is. I just plan to ride it out for the few weeks left.

I've had regular flu shots for the last few seasons so figure I have at least some protection to cover me until EOT in early May and the peak of our season tends to be July/Aug anyway.

Hi Magpie
I'm wondering about a flu shot too haven't decided yet. I finished tx last Monday still feel pretty tired need a nanna nap most days since finishing brains not too foggy though it's pretty sharp luckily. I was exhausted toward EOT it's strong medicine I think. Wishing you a great countdown and good results for your imminent EOT from sleepy Ariel

Hi Ariel
I would wait a while to see if many people are having strong reactions from this year's strain. You don't need a small dose of the flu straight after finishing treatment.
I am going travelling after treatment so will try and have a flu shot after EOT and before I leave.
The countdown is so slow.

Thankyou to all the people on this site, especially to those who have helped me through the last 4 months.
Thankyou to organisers for getting the fix hep c site operational.
I read a lot of information from the links Dr Freeman has put up too, so thankyou.

I wish all the people having treatment a safe journey and an undetected result.

Way to go Mags!!
A flu shot?? Ohhhh...
I'm a nothern hemi!! I got one a month before tx, but, at that time, I had no idea I WOULD be treating. Turns out, not one case of flu was reported at my school of 2400 teens who would think nothing of sharing a tootsie pop with the rest of the class. I go through a quart of Germex a month.,
At any rate, UNDETECTED!!!
You are in the stretch and pulling away from the pack. The virus is gone. Worrying about it coming back...be crazy not to, but these drugs work.
Keep your eye on the finish line.
You are almost there!
