Hi everyone,

I've been reading for a week or so but haven't posted yet. I have just received my meds today so have had my first dose of sof/dac this evening. I thought I'd rip the packet open the minute it arrived but when it did I suddenly felt hesitant and put off taking it. So I ended up having it after dinner.

I have had hep c (3a) for around 10 years. It has remained pretty dormant apart from an episode of acute hepatitis when I first got it. I've been monitored by the liver clinic during that time and always had good results. I had a fibroscan earlier in the year which came back fine. I had baseline bloods done yesterday so will put it into my signature when I know what the details are.

I haven't really had any symptoms apart from discomfort in the liver area, like the liver does not have enough room. From what I've read this is a common thing people mention. Because of this I'm not sure if I'll notice any change with the treatment, am hoping for minimal side effects so I can focus on the usual work and kids.

I'm looking forward to chatting to you all and going through this journey together.

Jaz :)

Welcome Jaz,

You've made a really positive step by seeking out treatment now that we have these new meds. There's plenty of good information and support here. Post away if you have any questions or just join in the general banter.

Great to hear that Canberra Hospital is supportive of generics which is great for your monitoring and will give confidence to others in your area contemplating treatment.

Welcome Jaz 3a here as well, don't be so sure about not noticing any changes most of us did. I would be very surprised if you didn't have some sides but if you do they should pass'. Most are clearing the virus quite quickly so buckle up and enjoy the ride :)

cheers

Thanks all for the warm welcome :)

Great to see so many of you with positive stories. I'm trying to get through as much of the forum as I can and have already had a few questions answered from reading others experiences.

Is there an ideal time to take the pills? At the moment the evening looks like the time I'm going with and it's a probably good time for remembering to take them. Has anyone had any issues taking them later in the day?

Got to head off to a Christmas party soon. Just feel like a lazy Sunday but hey, I'm better off taking the kids out to burn some energy.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend :)

Insonmia is a not uncommon side effect of the meds (though not one that I suffered). I believe some people have improved this by switching to morning treatment from evenings.

Hi Jaz

I am on day 4 and take my meds in the morning. I find that my sleep is broken up a little but still restful. For me, I have noticed that by taking sof/dac in the morning for the next 4 /5 hours I feel as though I am experiencing mild flu symptoms and a kind of heaviness or numbness. This means that when I am at work I try not to engage in any discussion and just focus on what I need to do and try and 'look alert'. This feeling passes in the afternoon thankfully. I have wondered if I should change to evening treatment however.

Hi Lin,

I experienced similar for the first week or so but it seems to have gone now. Perhaps wait and see if yours does before changing. We all have times when we are obviously off color and not at our best at work so I don't think your coworkers will notice or say too much other than maybe keeping out of your way just in case it's catching. ;)

Thanks G
I guess I want to prioritize sleep at the moment because I don't function well without it. Yes, my co workers probably recognise that its best not to engage with me in the morning as well.

Hi Jaz I start my fifth week of treatment this week. Only side effect I have had is insomnia. Was very tired throughout the day for the first week (I take my capsules around 8.00pm) but have now noticed, even though I am waking early, that my energy levels throughout the days have improved greatly. I work full time and have had no problems at work (other than yawning a lot for the first week) :) Good luck with your treatment. I have found this forum to be wonderful and pretty much any question/doubts you may have can be answered here.

Cheers Lynne

Thanks for the info, I'll see how the sleep goes for the next few days and decide whether to think about changing anything. Last night I had a pretty good sleep so fingers crossed it remains that way.

I felt a little strange today, I think foggy is the best word to describe it, only slightly. I was worried about socialising with people and conversation but ended up feeling quite chatty and relaxed. Will see how work goes tomorrow.

Hi Jaz,
I take my meds in the evening, but away from meals for better absorption. I sleep better then before as I did have insomnia for years, so this has improved greatly. I noticed that about 1-2 hours after taking the meds I feel a bit more "druggy" & relaxed, so I think that helps me to sleep better & fall asleep easier.
