In NZ we have a popular soap (much like Neighbours – Home and Away) called Shortland Street. 2 days ago they have introduced a Hep C story line where one of the core characters ( a surgeon) gets a needlestick injury from transferring blood into vacutainers. From the looks of things it’s going to be a big story line and Shortland Street does a good job of educating about medical conditions.
YMMV

21 March 2016 at 3:11 am #14298You’re welcome Hazel!
I sincerely hope the NZ legislators watch it and decide to take some action on making the drugs available
I moan about Ireland a Lot, at least they provided access too sick patients like Chris. Its fantastic we now have access and I for one am in awe of what Greg put in motion same for James
taking the steps too set up the the Buyers Club when everyone else looked on and did nothing.Anyways, we’re getting there we know Australia has taken note the rest of the world will follow……….
PS; you looked pretty cool on the bike James.

Absolutely with you Sir, here’s hoping the NZ legislators see the need to really get on this as a matter of urgency, considering what Aust has accomplished.

ALT 2621 March 2016 at 8:01 am #14311I am sure I don’t speak for the majority but actually I don’t want our government to do a deal with Gilead. I want them to say ‘we will do business with an ethical provider”. The whole world needs to do that. At best NZ Pharmac will only negotiate a deal that still only does say F4 (which would have included me, anytime in the past 17 years), unless it can get an uncapped deal like Australia, but we are too small to front up with a nice tempting billion. So we are still left with tens of thousands of people who could improve their lives dramatically who won’t be in the queue. At this point I would prefer NZ health system to monitor us in the hospitals so we don’t have to go private, have some trials going for free access, prescribe, and lets crowd fund for those who can’t afford generics. Because otherwise, health system is spending whatever big dollars, (to a company whose conduct is unacceptable to me) for the meds when as private citizens we can get so much cheaper.

21 March 2016 at 2:05 pm #14329I have posted the link to the story on several sites in the U.S. Will the link stay “good” or does the piece need to be uploaded to YouTube?
Too good to lose…
