Do you swim in the open water or in the salt pool at the beach?
Hey GT2, I swim with a bunch of fellow crazies called The Bold and Beautiful, and I am one of The Women Of The Wall.
We swim from Manly to Shelley and back starting 7am. I normally do it Monday, Wednesday (my work at home days) and the weekend.
My morning happy pill.
This morning at 7am (surfers be praying)
If you’re in Sydney you should come down some time. So many fish at the moment!!!

Wow what great replies to your question about coffee. I find I regularly read posts here and smile at the warmth and care on the forum. It’s just brilliant .I agree with re_roll about moderation. And Coral’s suggestion about compiling a book and everyone being different too. My hubby started keeping a food and activity diary half way thru the treatment when he had a few problems and it helped to pin point things.
beaches , those pics are amazing, thank you for posting them. I lived in Manly for a few years, its the best ocean pool ever imo. Huge admiration from me with your swimming activity!

I agree, I’m pleasantly surprised on how supportive fellow forum members are and how willing they are to offer advice based on their experiences … it helps a lot. I think I will take a leaf out of your hubby’s book and start to keep a food and activity diary so I can fine tune what, and what doesn’t, work for me.
Beaches, I just had a look at your Bold and Beautiful swim group online … and I’m a bit envious. What a great thing to do. Roughly a 1.5km swim there and back. Just the right distance to get a fantastic feeling afterwards without being too draining and being fatigued for the rest of the day. I’ve done a lot of swimming over the years, first thing in the morning before work, and found 20 to 30 laps (depending on how energetic I was feeling) was perfect for me … anything more I’d end up being too tired in the afternoons. I think I will start swimming again over the next few weeks just to mix things up.
By the way, do you guys wear shark deterring bathers similar to the one below?

The swim is around 1.5km, which is 30 laps but a lot less boring.Actually less if you are capable of swimming in a straight line instead of realising you are on your way to South America or are about to headbutt a wall.
Over 300 people did the 7am swim today.
Quite a few of us (including me) use a snorkel which means you can get a good look at the marine life, which is abundant right now.
I have not seen anyone wearing one of those cossies.

Over 300 swimmers is a decent turn out … no need to wear shark deterring cossies with odds like that … i.e. only 1 in 300 chance that you’ll be singled out for breakfast.
I’m not too sure on how robust the science is behind the above black and white design that is supposed to deter sharks … something to do with disturbing a shark’s visual perception … but I think it is simply that sharks would instantly recognise that the wearer would no doubt be a Collingwood supporter and be unsavoury. hmy:
Sorry, about my attempt at humour … but this would be a lot funnier if you lived in an AFL state … (Collingwood supporters act and behave similar to that of Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs supporters (so I’m led to believe …)

There are still LOTS of dusky whaler sharks in the bay but they are harmless and shy

Oh GT2 you are treading on Sacred Ground and splashing sacred soup all at once !!!
I barrak for the Pies and I surf and yes I wear short Springsuits just not in zebra stripes.
I’m thinking a fitting punishment for you….
Walk the plank ye frothing collywobbler! (My Shakespearean mode)
And thou shalt be singing as ye go:
Good old Collingwood forever!

When I saw the footage of Fanning and the Noah I though it must have got caught in the leg rope.
Now is the BEST time to swim at Cabbage Tree Bay. Just this morning I saw 3 giant cuttlefish, a turtle, a trigger fish, many duskies and a plethora of other fishies I unfortunately cannot identify. And dolphins, but not in the bay.
Warm in the water, chilly out.

I’m just back from a paddle, I have a friend succumbing to leukaemia; in palliative care, a single mum, we have locally made stickers for her
and ones on my board I am catching every wave for my friend at the moment
I feel so blessed
Only last November I was at the point of screaming from the rooftops to get rid of my own illness now I’m paddling for a friend in way more need.
We are very lucky here. It can be a troubled sea but I rekn I have navigated the worst storm swells now. Here’s an arty picture I took this morning don’t be fooled by the sunshine ha!
GT2 the beachbums have taken over your blog it’s sandy here now18 May 2016 at 3:40 pm #17417Hi Ariel and Beaches
Ariel, we certainly witnessed the pie’s collywobbles when the Weagles pulled their pants down over here a few weeks ago (exactly doubled their score (WCE 124 def Coll 62)). The pies definitely miss Swany … I love watching him play … should’ve won the 2010 Brownlow and definitely deserved the 2011 medal.
Beaches, I love the photo of your cossies … I reckon they’d be a better shark deterrent than the Collingwood cossies … anything with teeth would be too bedazzled to take a bite. hmy:
Great shot of your board on the beach Ariel … and of the little ripples in the background … can’t call ‘em waves … this is what we call a wave in the west (taken yesterday): hmy:
Sorry to hear about your mate … leukaemia is a nasty disease … sounds like she is getting a lot of support from you guys …

I’m happy to share it with you
That’s a SLAB that wave you posted surely not Margies where is it? Its a towie wave for sure. The ripples were head high yesterday here and fun small barrels I don’t do tow in myself hahaaaa geez your posts make me smile GT2
Actually that slab you posted is a good metaphor for interferon erghhhh. I would defs wipe out and I did on peginf lol!!
Have a look at my avatar that’s a couple of weeks ago we are just getting swell after swell in Vicco.
Hey, Tasmania….. If you are in Hobart head down to Shippies because the fellas are towing there like huge waves
I’m fascinated by tow in surfing it’s another league and they seriously risk their lives have a listen to Ross Clarke Jones on it or Greg Noll of course
See what’s happening GT2 once I am wound up on surf I cannot stop! Argh
Anyhoo the thing is how much can you take in wiping out? Surfer Today explains it:” Big waves are surely heavy. If you want to get an overall weight for your specific wave, you can roughly memorize that a cubic meter of water (1000 liters) weighs one metric tonne (1000 kilograms). How about that?
Example: a 33-foot (10-meter) wave with a falling lip that is 66-feet (20-meters) wide will mean that, if you wipeout, you’ll feel the equivalent of 410 tonnes (410000 kilograms) over your body. That’s the weight of 488 Volkswagen Beetles (1967 model)!
Another example from the average surfer’s perspective: imagine a 20-inch (50 centimeter) thick wave lip, only 3.2 feet wide, in a summer three-foot wave. Total weight? A solid 500 kilograms (1100 pounds).”
My preference is 3-6 foot and they are more than capable of holding me down if the swell period is over 14 seconds! I don’t wipe out much but I feel it when I do
Love the pic GT2
Not forgetting the Collingwood thing gawd I wish we could rip those Eagles throats out
Cheers and have a great day and Ty for writing back such a fun rsvp
Ariel19 May 2016 at 2:28 pm #17496Hi Ariel
Sorry about the brag … couldn’t help it … we are lucky to have some of the best surfing locations in the world over here in the west. I’m not sure where that particular shot was taken … probably down around Yallingup.
I can’t remember when, or if, the Eagles played off in the grand final with Collingwood … the Eagles have beaten Geelong (twice ’92 & ’94) & Sydney ’06, and been runners-up to Hawthorn (twice ’91 & ’15) and Sydney ’05. You may be thinking of a prelim, elim, or semi at some time.
Hey, by the way … have you heard about the Fremantle Dockers marketing man door knocking his way around Fremantle in an effort to increase their membership numbers? They are yet to win a game this season after 8 games … and their crowd numbers are dwindling … so Owen from their membership team has been door knocking. A Dockers fan heard a knock at the door, and asked who it was … Owen was the reply … Owen who the Dockers fan asked … Owen Eight
I agree about wave size … anything over 6 foot is too big for me … those tow in surfers are a lot braver than me … or crazier … it takes a lot of guts, and skill, to do what they do.
