So here is why the VA owns sofosbuvir:

In the beginning God created heaven and earth. Dr Schinazi created PSI-6130

    PSI-6130 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1932527/

    ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

This work was supported in part by NIH grants 5R37-AI-041980, 4R37-AI-025899, 5P30-AI-50409 (CFAR), and RR000165 (to Harold M. McClure) and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

    R. F. Schinazi is the principal founder and a former director of Pharmasset, Inc. He is also a major shareholder of Pharmasset, Inc., and Idenix Pharmaceuticals.

Now PSI-7851 comes directly from the development of PSI-6130

    http://www.wikinvest.com/stock/Pharmasset_(VRUS)/Psi-7851

PSI-7977 (aka Sofosbuvir) is the active metabolite of PSI-7851 so is also directly related to PSI-6130…

    http://files.shareholder.com/downloads/VRUS/0x0x345285/1de90b6b-1e21-4a23-b59f-f4533817aa73/PSI-7977

So the baby (invention) was born from NIH and VA grant money and was created by someone who was 7/8 time employed by the US Government.

    So what you say?

Executive Order 10096, issued by President Harry S. Truman in 1950, I say.

    http://www.tms.org/pubs/journals/JOM/matters/matters-9004.html

The main section of the executive order provides that the government shall obtain all rights to any invention made by an employee if any one of the following conditions applies: the invention is made during working hours; the invention is made using either government facilities, equipment, etc., or is made with the help of another government employee who is on official duty; or the invention relates to the official duties of the inventor.

So what did Dr Schinazi do in 2007-2010, what facilities were being used and what were his “official duties”?

This document indicates he was employed by the VA as a research chemist and did indeed make the invention in relation to “the official duties of the inventor” (on government time, in a government lab)

    https://tel.archives-ouvertes.fr/pastel-00605911/document

The research presented in this dissertation was performed in the Laboratory of Biochemical Pharmacology (LOBP) at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center/Emory University. LOBP is a drug discovery and preclinical drug development laboratory directed by Dr. Raymond F. Schinazi.

Developed in the 1/8 non government time. This is fantasy, fiction, and BS.

Developed on the government ticket. Owned by the US government.

Brilliant, breakthrough and stellar but not done independently.

    And it is all documented.

Congress should be more outraged about a treatment that:

    • Not only the VA can’t afford
    • But where the VA and Uncle Sam paid for the basic research

I don’t know anything about this site but they claim to advocate for Vets.

I am old enough to remember the Vietnam war. I was in the US in the early 70’s and I remember those guys coming back from that filthy war (aren’t they all?). Some of them were all messed up, in all kinds of ways. I still have fond memories of some that I met. I’d like to think that the ones that are still around could all get immediate access to the meds that they need. It’s now late in the day but after all that they went through I think it is time for them to catch a break,

When people hear about how many US Veterans are infected with HCV (1/4 of a million) they tend to jump to the usual stereotype of IVDU.

It’s probable that the majority of Veterans were given HCV via the use of Jetguns to immunise them.

Dr Schinazi retired two days before the meeting where he was supposed to testify.
Now he’s saying that he didn’t discover sof. That a doctor workin for him at Pharmasset did.

    http://www.military.com/daily-news/2016/02/05/former-va-scientist-responds-to-lawmakers-suspicions-drug-sale.html

    The Congressional meeting….

They are such liars. They started off by saying there are 200,000 veterans with hep C, then Dr Chang said it was only 180,000 and at the end Dr Shulkin said there are 116,000. Liars.

Last year, Dr Ross, Director of the Hepatitis C program told us there are 233,000 Veterans with Hepatitis C under the care of the VA, 180,000 diagnosed and the rest undiagnosed.

Dr Shulkin also said the VA cannot disclose how much they are paying Gilead for treatment. But they have disclosed it in the past.

Patent protection shouldn’t extend to the government’s treatment of its veterans. Uncle Sam should just whip up a batch of DAAs and solve the problem in the interest of national security.

During the meeting, one of the members of Congress talked about how the meds cost very little in other countries and then asked why can’t they just give Veterans a first class ticket to one of the places that had cheap meds. He said, ” it would be cheaper, we should look into that”

The next story will be on how they got infected by jetguns . We proved 100% contamination rate and we have mountains of evidence. Let’s see what the American public will say then.

Regarding sending vets to abroad for tx:

Well, that would make sense in a government way. Like moving an aircraft carrier under a hovering helicopter so it could land….
