Hi Every one,
I have question is there any interaction between “Pantoprazole 40 mg” and Harvoni ?
I’m under treatment for 6 week with “Pantoprazole 40 mg” and soon I’m going to start my Harvoni for 12 weeks.
I asked my physician and he not answer me clearly he said no problem ! with no details.
Thank you
Merai

Summary: Coadministration has not been studied, but data with omeprazole show only a small decrease in ledipasvir exposure. Proton pump inhibitor doses comparable to omeprazole 20 mg can be administered simultaneously with ledipasvir/sofosbuvir. Proton pump inhibitors should not be taken before ledipasvir/sofosbuvir. 6 April 2016 at 7:37 am #14968Hi HCV_FIGHTER and welcome.
As Paul explains from the link (very useful link for anyone on treatment and needing to use other medications) and quote he gave you it can certainly be done if you do it with the correct timing which your doctor should explain clearly to you. As it happens someone else asked the same question yesterday in the below linked post.

7 April 2016 at 1:17 am #14998That was smart methinks. I was on pantoprozole before tx and always had the idea that it was like a stronger kind of omeprazole PPI. First thing is after a couple of days of treatment my gastritis/reflux got a lot better. That lasted about 4 weeks and then when things really started acting up i followed the directives on gileads website which says you can take 20 mg or less of omeprzole ( or it’s equivalent?!?) at the same time as your harvoni in fasting conditions in the morning. I ended up taking about 32 omeprazole pills that way during my 12 weeks of treatment. I am now 4 weeks past tx and waiting for my VL results, kinda wishing i wasnt such a wuss and just put up with the reflux problems. Should know by friday if i am still UND.
Just saying this to put it in perspective from someone who has finished treatment and is on the edge of my seat waiting to see if i still have this thing licked and regretting the days I got up in the morning during tx and let myself take the omeprazole in case of relapse…

7 April 2016 at 1:05 pm #15017Hey Ken,
Its amazing how bad a messed up stomach can make you feel. I was lucky. I think the virus and the boxes of cheap red wine and the shots of whiskey on cold days at the golf course and eating fried everything probably and drinking beer like it was water had something to do with it. When those were removed from the equation. The stomach issues just stopped.
Amazing.

7/07/16 UND SVR 246 June 2016 at 9:58 am #18496Just read this and it blows me away as when first told I had a problem was Dec 2012 and the Doc who was relieving was from Africa, nice guy but I couldnt understand one word he said. He gave me a letter to take to Perth and I was sent to a Plastic Surgeon who just laughed at first.
I told him i was having trouble swalloowing and sore around the throught area and Had read where Chris Munce and my Bro in law had cancer of the throught both very fit. He said his Secretary was phoning allk around Perth trying to get me in to see someone as he said the Scans showed trouble in the liver.
He then prescribed me Pantaprozille and I have been on it ever since, last 18 months twice a day. Should I just stop taking them and see how it goes.
I am on the least meds atm for years as at one stage I was taking 25 tablets and peg injections per day. now down to Sof / dac, 1x pantaprozille, 1x Rifaximin, 2 Fruisemide am and pm same except no sof/dac. I was given till March to live but I dont think they have a clue, even though I have been in a coma twice and hospitalized 6 times this year. Got so bad I was unable to dress myself make a cup of tea, put a seatbelt on unlock a door, shower. change a toilet roll make a sanga, fuk I felt useless. Lucky I didnt have Doc Nitchke phone #Been feeling good last 2 weeks and due down again on 23rd June for clinic, which is an absolute joke. You see someone new each time and they spend the first 10 min finding out what meds you are on etc then say see you next time the front desk will make an appointment for you.

6 June 2016 at 10:42 am #18498Hi Barry,
Pantoprazole can be a problem with Harvoni because it reduces stomach acidity and the Ledipasvir in Harvoni requires good stomach acidity to be fully absorbed. The Sofosbuvir and Daclatasvir you are taking don’t require stomach acidity for absorption so the pantoprazole won’t reduce their effectiveness.
But perhaps you are wondering about whether you need to keep taking it based on the comments from Ken and Mike about improvements in their stomach condition during treatment?

6 June 2016 at 10:55 am #18499Yeah thanks I am glad it doesn’t effect sof/dac but it would be good to have less gut pain as I have an enormous hernia and a couple of smaller ones. I have swollen feet and legs and have upped my Frusimide .
