Of the hundred or so polls, one being Fox News, I found, all but three show Clinton beating anyone currently on the Republican ticket by a comfortable margin. The closest is Rubio and he is not that close, but things can change.

There was an interesting political cartoon is the national papers today. It showed Mitch McConnell, the Republican Senate leader having a nightmare. His nightmare: The next president appoints Obama as Supreme Court justice.

    That is a Republican nightmare.

Sometimes I wonder why people are so upset with Obama. Stock market at all time highs, unemployment the lowest its been in almost 20 years. Not fighting in any major wars. 22 million people have health insurance that did not before ObamaCare. I find it odd that most of the people howling about the government bailing out big companies and banks are driving huge Chevrolet pick up trucks. Without the bail out, they would just have Fords now.

Rubio would probably be OK, but he’s not extreme enough for the folks who have split the Republican party.

On drug pricing and politics from a recent HCV Reasearch and Hews article:

The elephant on the sidelines is the U.S. government itself, which would have significant negotiating power — if it were allowed to negotiate, which it’s not. This part of the issue is one of the wonkiest subjects to have percolated into the 2016 presidential race, with Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders both promising to combat high drug prices by allowing Medicare to negotiate. Among Republicans, using the government’s bargaining power against the drug industry is a non-starter — with the notable exception of Donald Trump, who perhaps can’t resist the chance to use the government’s power to wheel and deal on a truly grandiose scale. Trump has claimed that allowing Medicare to negotiate could save $300 billion, but that is almost certainly a huge overestimate since, in 2015, the total Medicare prescription drug spending for its part D benefit was projected to be $85 billion.

like I mentioned in another post, polls can be manipulated, but Hillary is favored to win by peeps
who put their money where their mouth is. It is illegal to bet on politics in Las Vegas, but in the UK
    Hillary is favored

There was an interesting political cartoon is the national papers today. It showed Mitch McConnell, the Republican Senate leader having a nightmare. His nightmare: The next president appoints Obama as Supreme Court justice.

that would be great…payback for all the obstructionists in the past 7 years

Sometimes I wonder why people are so upset with Obama….

peeps will deny it but deep/shallow-seated skin color aversion might be a reason. Unfortunately, when
Hillary is in office, the “C” word (not cancer) probably will be common

My family and relatives have almost always voted for the Dems. It is just the way it is. I’m sure it is the same
for the other party. I read a good article about Trump if he is the GOP nomination. The US does not have
51% morons for Trump to get elected. LOL.

And to Sirchinege…..I agree 100% with your post. We will not be alive when it happens in the US,
but a revolution will happen sometime in the future….rich versus poor, black/brown/yellow/red versus
whitey, and the Republicans against everyone NOT a republican.

    Some fun facts:
Sure the stock market is up (right now), but most investors attribute that to ‘quantitative easing’, you know, printing more money.
Unemployment lowest….you know they changed the definition, right? If you’re out of work longer than 90 days, you’re dropped from the statistic. Look around you. There are more homeless people now than there ever has been. By hundreds-fold. Go to the big cities. It’s pathetic.
Not fighting any major wars. Lol. The biggest one is here and it came to us. ISIS.

    And:
Median household income is down by 5k or so.
    Home prices have climbed.
Gas prices were LOWER than they are right now back in 2008.
Government debt was 50%. Under Obama it is now 75%.
Americans on food stamps ALMOST DOUBLED. it is now at 46 million. That’s almost 1/6th of Americans.
Economic growth at a paltry ~2% for the entire administration.
National Debt was ~10 Trillion……under Obama it is now >18 Trillion. The answer? It’s easy! Just print more money!! At some point the house of cards WILL collapse.
Racial division has never been so high. Not even in the 50’s and 60’s. And I don’t think most ‘BLM’s’ are Republicans. ;)

And Trump is doing exceedingly well. As of today, he has 82 delegates to Cruz’s 17 and Rubio’s 16. If Donald wins the nomination, he will decimate ‘Hillary, the lying politician.’

Good news? Gun sales are waaayyy up under Obama. He is the greatest gun salesman in America.
    Feeling better now?

Thanks for the economics lesson. That’s what my masters is in and what I teach and have taught for almost 30years. Wholesale printing of inordinate amounts of money leads to inflation and a value decline of said currency on the world market. When the previous president leaves you with a recession like none seen since the the Great Depression, trickle down, smaller government rhetoric makes no economic sense. As far as ISIS is concerned, if W wouldn’t have destabilized the entire Mideast with fruitless search for non existent WMDs in Iraq, ISIS would never have hatched. Saddam may have been a really bad, cruel ruler, but obviously that’s what it takes in that neck of the woods. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. W just wanted to finish Daddy’s war. No, Obama inherited an enconomy in fee fall and a decade of war fought on credit.
Afghanistan, yes. Something had to be done. Cheney led little Georgie right into the extremists hands. They didn’t have to come to the U.S. to kill Americans anymore! George sent them to their own little sandbox.

    And while we’re at it:

According to data from the FBI’s uniform crime reports, California had the highest number of gun murders in 2011 with 1,220 — which makes up 68 percent of all murders in the state that year and equates to 3.25 murders per 100,000 people.

The irony of such a grisly distinction is evident when you look at which state was named the state with the strongest gun control laws in 2011 by the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. You guessed it — it was California.

It should be noted, though, that California is also one of the biggest states in the country, with a population of about about 37 million. Therefore, it might make sense that it would have a high number of murders but its murder rate is still high as gun control has had a seemingly inconsequential impact. In comparison, Texas has a population of about 25.6 million and saw 699 total gun murders in 2011 — nearly half that of California — and a firearms murder rate of 2.91 per 100,000. And Texas is a open-carry state.

In 2011, Utah, the state that the Brady Campaign determined had the least gun control, experienced just 26 gun murders and a firearms murder rate of 0.97. Utah has a population 2.8 million.

    And about “Gun Free Zones”:

    Hey Split,
You have lots of friends left. You have made some great posts here and contributed to the overall relevance of this really special and different place. I like a person who is passionate about their beliefs. I guess my long-time career in the classroom has made me hyper aware of diversity and the fact that other people have feelings that I can unintentionally hurt if I am not very careful about what I say and do.
It is kind of like carpentry: measure twice, cut once, because once the board is cut too short, no amount of cutting can fix it.
    Keep measuring.
    Keep cutting.
Stay strong in your beliefs, knowing others may disagree, but that it doesn’t mean they have to be your enemy. The world would be a very boring place if we all were the same.
