Hi Dr James,
Thanks for taking the time to post a response to my post. I was tempted to stop the RIBA as soon as I read your response but then I knew if I failed treatment I would always wonder if it was because I stopped taking the last few tablets. This disease takes over your life and I will do anything to give the best chance of a cure.
I am always amazed that you take the time to read everyone’s posts and offer your valued option. You are truly amazing and I will always be grateful for your dedication to me and so many others health. Thank you.

Sofosbuvir and Ledisbovir plus 12 weeks Ribavirin
Geno 1a
Fibrosis F3/4

VL – negative at 12 weeksgreat to find this thread .
I’m genotype 1a, fibrosis 3-4, treatment experienced.
Have had HCV for over 40 years.
I’m now 11 weeks into 24 weeks treatment of
Sofosbuvir / Ledisbovir & 12 weeks of Ribavirin 1200.
My first 3 weeks was a breeze with no side effects.
But it soon went down hill after that.
My Haemoglobin dropped to 110.
My mood changed.
Trouble sleeping.
No energy.
Feel nauseous all the time.
My food tastes have changed.
Don’t feel like eating.
BUT hey ! I’m still breathing & in just 7 days, I finish with the Ribavirin .

VL – negative at 12 weeksI have 13 days to go on RIBA – also I was never a heavy drinker and 24 stubbies would last me a year! Now I don’t drink at all. So it can’t be related to alcohol. I drink about 2 litres water a day.

VL – negative at 12 weeksDay 42 & going OK.
Had a viral load test at day 28 & a drop from pre treatment of 2000000 down to below 12.
All my ALT’s are down in the normal range.
My hemoglobin is down a little but not to the stage of reducing the Ribavirin .
Side effects are some insomnia , need to keep RIBA rage under control, nausea most days.
BUT I’m not complaining,
I’m nearly 67 years old & have been retired for the past year.
So if I miss out on sleep or feel sick, I don’t have to go to work.
I’m looking forward to clearing this virus at the end of the 24 week treatment.

He said that it’s obvious that these drugs are working. He also commented that my kidneys are starting to work a bit harder. Got to drinks lots of water.

But I have noticed that my body aches have been getting better & I’m feeling more energy.
Maybe because I had to go off Statins before treatment has something to do with the less aches.
I also had to stop taking my reflux Somac medication , which I’m getting some minor heart burn.
Over all, so far, so good. BUT it’s still a long road ahead of me to get to week 24.

VL – negative at 12 weeksHi miko3, dointime, crazy8, londongirl, thanks for your discussion on this topic.
It has given me more insight into these drugs.
It can get very confusing re Tx regime & who’s right .
We all seem to have different answers but it comes down to the individuals choice.
I for one will be doing the 24 weeks.

Sorry for the delay in replying to your post.
All I can say is that you could be right but I had sent all my information plus a copy of my latest fibro scan to Dr Freeman who said that as I was close to fibrosis he would err on the side of caution . I would presume that Dr Freeman with his interest & knowledge in hepC & the generic drugs would prescribe the right meds for me.
But since seeing my gastro heptologist before starting treatment, I was told that with geno 1a, treatment experienced, fibrosis 3-4 , I could just use the Sofosbuvir, Ledisbovir & Ribavirin for 12 weeks BUT did add that to be sure it wouldn’t hurst going with Dr Freeman’s initial treatment regime .
So as I’ve paid for the full 24 weeks, that’s what I’ll be taking.
