Thanks Dr James, that is really good news. Guess I was a month too early. Do you know if the Gold Coast University Hospital Liver Clinic is also willing to monitor? I’m due for a Fibroscan there next week, and not sure whether to mention generics. Bloods in August were all normal.
Thanks Em and Nadia, and Chester – what an interesting list of celebrity heppers…from Linda Lovelace to Gomer Pyle.

Thanks Jolie, clever and funny article, worth a read.
Good for you Johnboy. I found so much ignorance out there, particularly concerning transmission (the leper effect) that I shut up about it. I couldn’t be honest in my work environment without risking losing jobs or customers. It’s almost as stigmatised as HIV was.
Yes Johnboy I am prepared for side effects, all worth it to be Hep C freeeeeeeeee. And I might be one of the lucky ones without sides.
I’ve been living with my dragon for over 30 years and very ready to say goodbye to the shame, stigma, and secrecy that came with it.
Received an email yesterday confirming my order has arrived in Australia, awaiting testing and encapsulating, so it won’t be long now. Whoopee.
I’m still waiting for my meds to arrive but getting excited hearing all the positive feedback.
Thanks everyone for the encouragement and all the best with slaying the dragon.Meanwhile Gilead stocks have been downgraded due ‘to the hullabaloo over high drug prices’.
Today’s ABC news:
“A dispute between Australia and the US over patent protections for pharmaceuticals is holding up the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Negotiations between the 12 countries in the US city of Atlanta have been extended for an extra day, as the US seeks to increase the length of time patents for new biologic drugs are protected.
The move is being resisted by Australia and Japan.”
Hi Vicki,
Change.org had a petition targeting Gilead from a US perspective over a year ago, with close to 50,000 signatures:
https://www.change.org/p/gilead-sciences-make-cure-for-hepatitis-c-affordable-for-the-world?recruiter=29648901&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink#petition-letterAnd another from the Hep C Coalitian:
http://www.petitionbuzz.com/PETITIONS/HEPCAnd one mentioned on Greg Jeffery’s blog:
https://www.change.org/p/hon-susan-ley-prime-minister-malcolm-turnbull-help-sufferers-of-viral-hepatitisThere are several others (including Avaaz) but they are out of date or focused on a particular country (like Canada or Mexico).
I think it’s an issue that needs to be international, and target not just Gilead but all those involved in regulating pharmaceutical companies.
The Trans Pacific Partnership currently under discussion favours Big Pharma, and getup.org has a petition opposing that:
