18 September 2016 at 3:25 pm in reply to: NHS funding cuts forcing people to buy medicine through Facebook #23107
To me it looks like the article is written for Big Pharma’s interests.
The general sounding of the article, starting with the title, presents the NHS (low) budget as being the bottleneck in treating HCV patients, so the indirect message is to increase the funds in order to treat more people. But this is nothing else as just continuing to do what the healthcare systems did for years in the past (increase of budgets while Pharma is asking for more money).
The author of the article as well as politicians and people working in the healthcare systems should think on a new paradigm regarding the access to treatment. (as Sofosbuvir was in the treatment of HCV – so do not waste money, rather invest it in an intelligent solution to treat more people).
It is a lack of ingenuity, creativity and perhaps intelligence (I do not intend to offend nobody, rather to pinpoint an idea) to play the song of “generics might be fake or whatever”. People need solutions, so instead of the budget song, the message should have been: “what should we do in order to allow patients access the real, effective and cheap generic HCV drugs”. Finding a proper solution for this would mean creativity & intelligence. We may argue that a Buyer’s Club is an imperfect, yet pragmatic way to access HCV generic drugs. So, why aren’t politicians looking at the fact the people do get cured with these generics and why aren’t they doing something to provide these generics on a larger scale, perhaps in a regulated manner and thus to offer the assurance and safety that the “good” generics will be provided to the patients? Some time ago a key question was whether generic HCV drugs are effective. Now we know they are. And we also know that the treatment if delayed because of some laws. Which leads to another question: what has a higher value? The life of a person or the “blindness” of a law? I think we may agree that the current bottleneck is on a political level.

SVR52 achievedHi Tweakmax,
Thank you for the information.
I do not know him in person (but I read about him) nor belong to the fb group….
I was thinking whether he knows about the information from fixhepc being translated in Romanian language? Perhaps it would be relevant to spread it on their fb group.
It would be this link:http://fixhepc.com/forum/new-to-forum/969-fixhepc-information-translated-in-romanian-language.html
Indeed, the most patients from Romania have the genotype 1b, this is mentioned also in a couple of medical reports.

SVR52 achievedIn one of the posts on this forum ( http://fixhepc.com/forum/graphic-art-corner/1296-oasis.html#21536) I briefly mentioned that in Romania, before 1989 (Romanian revolution), people could watch the TV only 2 hours per day (that was the time the national TV station – the only TV in RO at that time – was active in one day).
Without going into a political debate ( I have no intention for this), I also do remember that in those times people were hidding in their homes in order to listen the radio station “Free Europe Radio” (Radio Europa Libera) and so to be upated with news about what happens in the world. The authorities from those times did not like this, and everybody was fearing they will be punished if it will become known that one has listened the Free Europe Radio station. So, what does this story has to do with the HCV treatment with generic drugs?
I would say some things are common.
I would look at the 2 hours/day of TV transmissions as being what many healthcare systems worldwide advocate today: HCV being treated with IFN+RIB.
I would look at the Free Europe Radio as being the generic drugs: people know that the generic drugs exists and are effective (as everybody has now a “radio”=PC with internet connection, and is able to read information about HCV generic drugs), however many avoid to talk openly about the generic drugs because they fear of potential punishments.I think that one thing that will enable the launch of the mass treatment of HCV patients with generic drugs is the freedom of speech. As long as patients and doctors fear to talk about it, the mass treatment will be delayed. If they could talk open about it, things would be different.

SVR52 achievedHi Beaches,
it was me . However a little bit of background information: before the Romanian revolution from 1989, we could watch television only for 2 hours per day. Most of the things we were seeing at that time were about communism. Immediately after the revolution, the national TV started to air almost the entire day and we were having various things to watch. Everything was interesting at that time to watch, including the cartoons for the kids . If I am not wrong, Captain Planet was on TV in the early ’90s.

SVR52 achievedHi Sven,
these are great news my friend, stay positive, 2.5 weeks will go very fast.
Afterwards you will no longer have so many things to do, rather simply wait for 12 weeks. But hey, if you will get bored of waiting, you may at any time think on “some worries”. Just kidding ! In case you will face some times of having doubts or worries, just think many others from here went through similar stages. Have trust the virus is gone .I also agree with what you said about dr. F. and the fixhepc community

Very interesting and pleasant news, thank you for sharing it.
Would you perhaps have a link to fb to post here or to send it to me via PM?I believe it would be a nice information to put also on Twitter , especially that I’ve noticed there are not so many articles / information available in Romania about the HCV generic drugs.

SVR52 achievedHi Pat1,
WOW, that’s a really nice decrease
It makes me wonder, whether the new medicines that will be produced in the following years, will be able to “dissolve” the scar tissue and to allow the liver to return to a normal state – no fibrosis at all .
As of today this might sound impossible, however until ~2-3 years ago nobody knew that HCV can be treated by taking 1 pill / day….. because the interferon was the king….
So SVR 12/24 is the first major goal to achieve (well… me,…. dreaming a nice dream ).CONGRATULATIONS!

SVR52 achieved13 September 2016 at 8:26 pm in reply to: Why doctors are a key factor in the generic medication… #22921An interesting read here (http://cid.oxfordjournals.org/content/57/suppl_2/S51.full.pdf) which addresses the barriers to hepatitis C care and stigmatization and in which there are couple of things to highlight:
– A defining element of relationships between clients and healthcare professionals is trust. A growing body of literature notes that trust between client and clinicians is essential for effective therapeutic encounters. Trust affects numerous important health-related behaviors, including willingness to seek care/use health services, uptake and adherence to treatment, quality of interaction between patient and doctor, patient disclosure, and behavioral change. In this sense, trust is interpersonal, a quality of the relationship between individual client and health worker. Nonetheless, it is also important to consider trust at the system level, that is, the extent to which clients trust both the health system and the range of other social systems that govern modern life.
Here I would add my own comment that when there exist a lack of trust in the healthcare system (rejecting or rationing the HCV treatment for high prices reasons or other policies) it is up to the patient to compensate this lack of trust …. by seeking and becoming better informed about HCV treatment options and to discuss the topic of affordable HCV medication (generics ) with his/her doctor.– see also the example of “Peter” whose decision to seek another (friendlier) doctor enabled him to access the treatment.
– Developing genuine partnerships with people living with HCV and consulting them on the design and operation of health services may be a first step toward establishing, modifying, or reforming health services to better address stigma as a barrier to HCV and treatment.
Here I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to the Fixhepc community that (IMHO) compensates successfully the lack of trust the patients have towards their healthcare systems which denies the HCV treatment.
Cheers,
RHF

– add a short pitch in your signature from FIXHEPC in both languages, your native langauge and the English language.
It might facilitate the visitors from your country to find and read your posts.
Some weeks ago, in another thread on this forum, there was a creativity exercise being made to create a motto and/or pitch for the fight with HCV. Have a look here http://fixhepc.com/forum/fun-stuff-and-trivia/1167-looking-for-support-in-creating-a-motto-for-the-hcv-fight.html to get inspired in making your own pitch or use an existing one.Cheers,

SVR52 achievedIn the past 2 weeks I’ve been a little bit lazy regarding Twitter, however I spent some more time on it in the last 2 days and I made a very good experience
It is a fast way to have access to the latest news about the topics I am interested in (by the way, congratulations to Fixhepc for the interesting tweets ans re-tweets) and I was able to create some minutes ago my first tweet. Incredibly simple . What is also nice and funny, is that your followers get what you tweet, so if you find an interesting tweet or news somewhere, it is very easy to retweet or make a tweet in order to keep your followers uptodate.
