About 18 months ago I was in a desperate situation, feeling sick, knowing to have HCV for a long time, having failed the interferon based treatment and keep waiting for a miracle to happen so that I have access to a new HCV treatment.

I was losing my hope that I could ever be cured of HCV and at the same time I was frustrated on the healthcare system that was discriminating the access to treatment.

When I heard about the new treatment (DAAs based), I felt I had a new hope, however at the same time I had a lot of questions and fears….. How much it will cost? From where to get it? Does it work? Will I ever be able to get the treatment? Did anyone got cured with these drugs? Will it work on me? If I would buy generics, would I be a fool or would it be my chance to get treated? And and and….. My head was full of questions. To make things even worse, I was also affected by the fact that there were not so many information available about the HCV treatment with generics and the few people (close friends) who knew about me having HCV, were also fearful that I will be fooled …

I also do remember I was in such a high need to get a piece of information to show me that I can trust that I can get cured with generics, but nobody was able to share such information with me.

Today things are different. I am cured thanks to the great support of Dr. Freeman, FixHepC, Greg Jefferys and my doctor in Romania.

To me, in my heart, all those who helped me are real heroes, even though they might not be aware of this.

A short note to my previous post: the current (new) rules for extending the treatment for HCV patients in my country still do not qualify people like me (I had f1/f2 before starting the treatment) for getting the treatment. So …. I guess I can say that I “won” 1 year free of HCV thanks to generic medication and looking how slow the things are moving in granting the access to treatment, I would dare to say that I won also the next year …. maybe more years, to live without HCV.

1 year ago I received my first UNDETECTED viral load test. The test was made after almost 4 weeks of treatment and it was a huge relief to know that the virus has gone. The reimaining 8 weeks of tx were very easy to me.

So what happen since then? Well, I finished my treatment, I reached SVR12 and I continue to like readimg the stories of other people, how they are doing, etc. Unfortunately I do not have too much time left for writing on the forum, it sems that after being cured I am investing a lot of time in doing things I could not do before.

I also keep an eye with what happens in my country with the subsidized treatment for HCV, there is some progress, but not as much as I would see as necessary…The only thing that I currently see in excess is politics and promises. Many barriers, which I also faced, in accesssing the treatment still exist and that’s a solid reason for me to consider myself lucky enough for getting treated with generics and at the same time to be very thankfull to all who have shared their stories, opinios, experiences here on Fixhepc and to dr. Freeman and Greg who made the dream of getting treated of HCV come true.

Hi Beaches,

I am doing fine. The more time passes, the better I feel physically.

Psychologically, yeah, there are some things still to deal with. I guess that having had HCV so many years generated several worries and disapointments that require some extra time till they will be “fixed”. Nevertheless I can see and feel that thigs are going on the right track.And this is again thanks to dr. Freeman.

So cheer up, take your time and have patience , we need “learn” how to live without HCV,
