The Certificate of analysis I got from Kingswood for Dac says it should be less than 0.5%, so 0.38% is fine. My Dac came from the same batch.

For those things we need to learn before doing them, we learn by doing them. ;)

Nobody should undertake hep C treatment without the supervision of a suitably qualified doctor.

Nobody in Australia can legally buy or import any listed meds without consulting a doctor and getting a prescription. My GP refused to prescribe as he was not familiar with the treatment options but was happy to order tests. I then consulted a suitably qualified doctor (Dr Freeman) with the results and was prescribed the appropriate treatment.

I’m interested in how it is possible to estimate the number of undiagnosed? I guess you could use a decent size random sample of people and then test them all and extrapolate. But that would cause an analog of Heisenburg’s Uncertainty Principle ie. just doing the test would change the results.

I was referring to zhuk’s 1990 diagnosis. There were no treatment options then. I certainly have encouraged people to fixhepc.
One of my best friends is F4 Gt1a but still wants to wait for PBS. Horse > water > !=drink.

    Ditto, no apology necessary.
I was pretty confused with all the jargon when I first started looking into this and learned lots more in the couple of weeks I’ve been on this forum. Still get confused!
I think Dr James posted elsewhere that treatment should be longer if you are F4.
Edit – I see he posted while I was writing this. :)

Not giving a shit can be a way of coping with the fact that giving a shit would be pointless with no treatment options.

Its been just 11 days for me on the meds. No I mean I will continue for 16 weeks BUT after 12 weeks if I have achieved SVR then I will stop after 16 weeks.

As 86 said, you can’t have SVR while you are still on meds. SVR is Sustained Virological Response measured after end of treatment (EOT). You are confusing SVR with UND (Undetected). If you are UND after 4 weeks on meds you almost certainly will be UND after 12 weeks of meds. But for SVR12 you need to be UND 12 weeks after finishing taking meds.

The overall cure rate in ASTRAL-1 of 99% looks good but I’d imagine comparable tests of sof/dac and sof/led would be in the same ballpark.

The majority of serious adverse events and deaths were associated with advanced liver disease.

Surely some patients with advanced liver disease would die in 12/24 weeks whether treated or not.

That’s probably too close to the truth to actually laugh at.

A bit later……… yes I thought I read something today. From Dr James’ blog –

According to Reuters John Martin, CEO of Gilead Sciences, has taken home $400.6 million dollars between 2009-2013 and is on track to take home $600 million making him the best remunerated executive in the USA.

That’s marvellous news! And no mention of triaging patients. I was sure they would limit availability or stall some more. Still, I have no regrets on starting now.

No mention of Viekira Pak which is TGA approved and PBAC recommended. Said to held up because of pricing negotiations but I wonder if safety is also a concern as it is reportedly potentially lethal for patients with significant liver damage.

I’m not sure how to distinguish “mild flu-like symptoms” I have every day from the “mild flu-like symptoms” of side effects.

Also, I recommend StartPage as a great search engine. No logging or data mining.
