BUT still $ 5 is a lot of money for MOST Indians. A checkout girl in a supermarket earns $ 125 a month. A driver OR cleaner in a company job earns $ 175 a month. USD I mean. In short too expensive the world over.
I cant afford to buy it in my country being an average citizen ( cost € 60000) and an Indian cant afford to buy it in his ( cost $ 1000).

Politicians, especialliy in the US, are always complaining about certain countries violating peoples’ basic human rights: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It seems like allowing a company to charge more than people can afford to pay for a life-saving medication would qualify as a human rights violation.
    Maybe thats just me.
    I don’t know.

The distribution of wealth in the world and particularly the USA is disturbing. It could be described as inhumane. It is way worse than most people imagine –

The initial study may have been done at cardiff and copied Some Euro doctors challenging patent.

I read a very similar article a few days ago Paul:

    http://www.alternet.org/economy/pill-cures-hepatitis-costs-just-4-if-you-live-america-its-1000

I didn’t previously link to it because it contains some serious factual errors. The drug on sale in India is not the one developed at Cardiff Uni, it’s a licensed copy of the Gilead one, as we all know. The drug developed at Cardiff Uni is INX-189, which ended up being taken on by BMS and re-named BMS-986094:

    http://www.cardiff.ac.uk/news/view/54235-purchase-deal-over-hepatitis-drug

It was a disaster for BMS, and they dropped it during trials after one patient died of heart failure and several others became seriously ill:

    http://www.natap.org/2012/HCV/080312_01.htm

BMS eventually settled US$80 million out of court:

    http://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424127887324539304578261782310743030

On a side note does anyone know how BMS are getting on with their Daclatasvir+Asunaprevir+Beclabuvir DAA combination therapy?

Here is the Phase 3 for UNITY-2

    http://www.natap.org/2014/AASLD/AASLD_23.htm

So the results are ok but Daclatasvir+Asunaprevir+Beclabuvir appears to need RIBA to get to the results delivered by other combinations.

    YMMV
