Yes, I don’t think there are words to describe how grateful I am to James (and Greg) for their efforts with the push for generics. When I was first diagnosed 12 months ago it was Greg’s blog that I came across while “googling” everything I could about Hep C. I had heard of the virus but had absolutely no idea about the ramifications that came along with it.

The support from everyone on this forum is awesome and allays a lot of fears for those us that have had our doubts here and there. It has also shown me just how brave the human spirit can be.

Shall post my SVR12 in a couple of weeks! Onwards and upwards!!! :)

    WebMD picked it up too!

    http://www.webmd.com/hepatitis/news/20160416/generic-hepatitis-c-drugs-as-effective-as-pricey-brand-names-study

This is fantastic, since this will be in their searchable archives for HepC Generics! This is the most popular, go to site in USA for Medical questions. Maybe even on the planet!

Talk about changing the world!! :cheer: :+1:

wow!!! so wonder how’s Eviljoy going to handle this wonderful news spilling out all over the place? Finally, the light is shining into the dark corners! (well, just checked, maybe not in THAT dark corner, total news blackout there..she must be busy erasing day and night–still telling the people who are crying about being denied to wait and appeal and wait and appeal, and rinse, wash again…;)

Gilead must be pretty pissed about now…..

Gilead are businessmen. Amoral perhaps, but businessmen all the same. They will always have known their high price run was time limited, although generic competition may not have factored into their timelines.

Gilead’s decision is simple – if they chase us they give the generic flame oxygen. Media oxygen.

Ignoring generics is their best option and what they have been doing. If you look at the upside/downside risk, selecting do nothing is the way to go.

I doubt a bit of anger is going to make them drop the ball. They may be bastards, but they aren’t stupid.

    Exactly right doc.
They (Gilead) will keep the price high in the U.S. because the insurance companies are having to cover the cost to avoid lawsuits over denial of treatment claims. The high cost of insurance coverage for these and other specialty drugs will be passed along to all the members of the insurance plan. The government (state and federal) will recoup their money through higher taxes. Gilead gets the money and avoids paying its fair share of taxes by being based offshore.
    The American way.

Yup. I agree. I predict they will wait and in about a year drop the price to $25,000 which the insurance companies will think is a dream price. Then continue raking in the billions.

Hopefully people in USA will make the effort to seek out foreign generics.
