Good news Hotdog. You are going really well. Keep on doing what you are doing to the very last pill.
The 2.13 minute clip made me want to see the rest. This is great Hazel. The gift that keeps giving…..
Welcome Hopeful425 and congratulations on starting your treatment. As a full time worker and mother of 4 you do have a lot on your plate anyway so your anxiety about being able to juggle everything while you are on treatment is understandable.
I was not treated with Mavyret but I did have headaches and insomnia while I was taking my medication and these side effects seem to be pretty common for all of the treatments. I used to wake up at 2 am every morning and it would take me a couple of hours of reading to get back to sleep. Very frustrating.
Most people get a bit anxious in the beginning but find that the side effects start to ease and they are able to manage much better than they thought they would. Hang in there and I hope this is the case for you.
Lots of good advice from Mar and Dr James about taking care of yourself – something that sometimes gets overlooked for mothers of 4!
Good luck with the rest of the treatment. It may be a bit of a balancing act now but it is so worth it.
Welcome Josie64,
From the many stories I have heard in this forum and from my own experience with treatment the more common side effects seem to be insomnia, tiredness and headaches. I’m pretty bad at remembering to drink water so I really had to make myself increase my intake while on the medication and it did make a difference. All the usual things like eating well and exercise also helped, although the insomnia hung around until I finally completed what turned out to be an unusually long period of treatment to eradicate my very stubborn virus.
Of course having Hep C and undergoing treatment doesn’t mean we are not susceptible to other illnesses so you are wise to keep an eye on your tiredness and see if begins to alleviate.
I really wish you well and look forward to hearing about your progress.

Sven and re_roll said it so well. I’ll be hovering until I’m gone or Hep C is eradicated…
Well done to you and your team Hazel. What an incredible reaction and an acknowledgement of the incredible drive and hard work that you’ve put in. Good luck with the rest of the trip.
Hi Sven,
Good to hear from you. I like that “Excellent” on your report card
Hi LisaOregon,
Welcome! Scared but excited are pretty common feelings at the start of the treatment. I also had Hep C for over 30 years and felt exactly the same. You’ve done the hard bit in getting started and now it’s a matter of taking the medication and being a bit kind to yourself while it does it’s magic.
Good luck and let us know how you are travelling.
Hi Austincr,
It sounds like things are going really well for you with minimal side effects, apart from insomnia which is pretty common. Enjoy the catch up with your children and grandchildren. These precious times are when we really appreciate the enormity of what this medication has given us.
Hi Tototo,
Sorry about the itching but congratulations on those lovely numbers.
Hi Tigerfan,
It’s good to hear from you and congratulations on getting that insurance. I could feel a bit cheated that I didn’t look 20 years younger after my cure but accept that I certainly feel like I’ve shed a few years in terms of energy and outlook. Best wishes…..
Dr James – you are nowhere near ready yet but when the time comes I vote for the clippers#1 over the comb over…
Welcome Austincr,
You are already 13 days in and well on your way to being cured forever. Lots of good advice here especially about drinking lots of water and generally being kind to yourself with good nutrition and sleep.
I’m pleased that you haven’t had any noticeable side effects. Now it’s just about doing the time. Please post any questions that you have. We’ll be looking out for you.

Yay! That’s wonderful news christop88. I found that my energy levels and general wellness just got better and better so the best is yet to come.
Hello Hazel,
Thank you for posting such a beautiful version of this wonderful song. That was quite something. I have been thinking about you and my other NZ friends. It is devastating what has happened in your home town but you are part of an amazing community and country. Thinking of you all.
Much love
Coral
Hello Stingray. It’s great to see your post. I joined around the same time as you (September 2015) with exactly the same thoughts. I did a Skype appointment with Dr James and was pretty sure I was onto a good thing but who really knew? It all seemed so extraordinary at the time and I was the last person who would have considered importing drugs from overseas. Just as well I got over that and the rest is history.
Thanks for checking in and keep on enjoying….
