We have a lot of issues right now in the U.S.: All Congress can pass is gas, a large number of people hate Obama simply because of his skin color, another large faction think he's weak because he doesn't want to mire us down in another foreign war, the Republicans can't even agree with each other and their leading presidential candidate is Donald Trump-a billionaire buffoon.
The rich can afford expensive medications and write it off their taxes. The poor don't just have Medicaid. There are several patient assistance programs that will pay most, if not all, of exhoibitant medication costs.
That leaves us with the good old middle class. The ones that don't have time to complain because they are too busy working, fighting our country's wars and paying the bills. i'm sure Gilead did a study to determine how much the average middle class family could scrape together to cure one its members of HCV.
It is a mess, but I wouldn't call any other place home. We can import our medications. We just need companies or organizations that will ship in such volume it will force Gilead to take some very public legal steps to protect its patent and extortionary prices.
And then the the kicker: who in power really cares about a bunch of needle-using, inked-up, locked up, doped up losers who are suffering God's wrath for their transgressions....

Which brings me to the situation "over there.": hopeless. Its hard to help people who are ignorant without the freedom of speech.

yep, says it all Mike, We haven't been 'land of the free' for awhile now. Multi-nationals holding too many strings on too many puppets, gov't spying on its own citizens, Snowden living in exile because he told on them, probably about ready to crank up another war.....it just goes on

US Elections coming up make Health an issue stop large Pharma from ripping off the people ask questions demand a better health system the people vote them in.

I honestly believe FixhepC had a lot to do with the deal Gilead struck with Australia they were losing too much money.

I think the same thing Wayne. Market pressure.

I'm not sure how much significant monies they were losing in non-Aust sales overall, but I'm sure the global interest generated by the club wouldn't have been pleasant, from a.PR POV.

I think it was more a manoeuvre designed to shut down a political embarrassment.
