I don’t want to get political, but I am really fearful that the doors to generic medicine will be closed to people in developed countries.

Will the buyer’s club be forced to shut down due to the TPP?

I think that is a question worth looking into because my understanding is that agreement is less for trade and more for patents generally.

INDIA AND CHINA WERE NOT PART OF THE 12 COUNTRY TRADE AGREEMENT. NO IT WON’T EFFECT THE BUYERS CLUB

It is my understanding that this wont affect the buyer’s club. It will however delay the implementation of generics in the signing countries as they place a 5 year hold on the medicine to allow the manufacturers time to recoup r&d costs. While this is terrible, its not as bad as the 12 year hold that the US originally asked for.

On the surface nothing should be affected.The Genie is well and truly out of the bottle.Anyway the TPP still has to get through both houses of parliarment.However,I am wary.The Americans have a history of nasty tactics,and what is presently happening with overseas accessed generics must be a real thorn in their side..Doctors in Sth Australia are already barred from writing scripts for overseas generics, I have been told.One would hope that this is not extended elsewhere.I am personally taking a cautious approach and making sure I have enough medication to last to the end of treatment.Hopefully everyone who needs this medication will be able to continue to easily access it,its really an unstoppable avalanche,but it could easily be made more difficult.I really hope not.It would be really stupid if people had to end up going overseas personally to get what they rightfully need.

Started tx 12Oct.sof and riba India via greg.Dac from Mesochem.
4wk result virus not detected,all liver functions in normal ranges.
Only SE intermittent insomnia.Feel great and grateful otherwise

Hi I don’t understand how sth australian doctors are barred since health services is national. Then doctors in all states would be barred. Perhaps its doctors working in hospitals have been directed not to write prescriptions. GP’s are paid by medicare. Medicare would refuse to pay services that involved writing prescriptions for overseas purchases.

I don’t understand it either Berrinice.The information comes from My GP.He tells me Doctors are licensed in the State they work in.Each state has different regulations.and a doctor working in that state must conform to them.A doctor working in Queensland cannot for example work in NSW without renewing his license to practice.

Hi Miko, I think all registered Health Professionals moved to National Registration and Standards at least 3-4 yrs ago. So not state but federal registration and ‘guidlines’

I am sure you are correct Anne Bee.My GP is probably out of date,since he seems out of date on everything else.Someone from SA might be able to elucidate.Interesting post on the TPP.I stil remain wary.

I think this is Dr James department. He would definitively know what the dr set up is. Maybe have to lobby all dr boards to leave it up to the dr. whether or not they write a prescriptions, gastros and hep specialist included.
Anyway Dr James can write the prescriptions.

So desperate to get this underway before the door closes
But I haven’t seen a doctor in years so I have to start from scratch

I’m going to get results tomorrow that are only to confirm I have hep C, which i know i have (doctor’s requirement)
Then more tests for all the other results I need, and then the fibroscan
All before i can get started

Just had to put it in words because i’m a bit frustrated
