Just wondering why you didn’t go Harvoni – Sofosbuvir – Ledipasvir from Kingswood?
Thought Sof – Dac was for Geno 3

Sof Dac is Pan Genotypic and seems to work with everything, the FDA has only just approved it for use in GT1 though but the Europeans allready had done so. I suspect that Gilead ran the Harvoni studies and as they own the meds didn’t have to run Sof Dac trials for Gt1 which is predominate in the USA. However Gt1a may respond better with Harvoni than Gt1b.

Clear as mud I know :(

    cheers

My understanding is that before Gilead bought out Pharmasset to get control of Sofosbuvir, Pharmasset and Bristol-Myers Squibb were cooperating on trials of the Sofosbuvir/Daclatasvir combo, and that Gilead ended the cooperation and instead began testing the Sofosbuvir/Ledipasvir combination. Ledipasvir was/is another Gilead product.

The application process takes time and money and BMS for some reason didn’t pursue pan-genotypic approval in the US. For genotype three however, the Sof/Led combo was clearly not performing well and so one or both of the entities sought and gained approval of the Sof/Dac combo for that genotype.

In Europe BMS went it alone and the Sof/Dac combo is approved for all genotypes there. Early on, the trials were smaller and so even though Sof/Dac was clearly out performing the Sof/Led combo, the small size of the trials left higher statistical uncertainty. At this point it’s become fairly clear to most of us that the Sof/Dac combo is superior and pan-genotypic.

Furthermore generic Dac is priced markedly lower than generic Led so you get a better combo for less money.

And to top it off, many of us hate Gilead enough at this point that we’ll choose the Sof/Dac combo just to undermine them. I personally had reached that point over four months ago and while I already had a prescription for Sof/Led from a Thai doctor my (partly political) preference for Dac was part of my decision making process that sent me to Australia to get my meds … I could get a prescription for my preferred combo there from Dr. Freeman.

Edit: I got the Thai prescription on the 19th of September.and as best I can remember, made the final decision to fly to Australia rather than Bangladesh or China on the 23rd.

I ordered my meds from Adam at Kingswood pharmacy and they arrived here in the U.S.A. 2 days ago. Started taking them right away. No other updates to offer just wanted to offer some comfort to those that have concerns about shipping meds internationally.

    Thanks Tom

    Hi T,
    Good for you!
Another American who “figured it out!”
Your virus has just been given a month live.
    May it R.I.P.
I’m kind of “spread out” and can’t up with things as fast and often as they’re happening, but what guided you to FHC in the first place?
I’m thinking facebook might be a good medium to get the “word out”.
Maybe the EASL findings will get some U.S. attention.

    Just thinking out loud….
    Good Luck!
    Mike

Hi Mike, Thank you for your kinds words and inspiration!

As I did not have insurance and the high cost of Harvoni is well publicized here in the states I really didn’t think there was a solution. I simply started doing google searches to see if I could possibly find a cure in another country. Eventually that search produced a hit for FHC website and I was thinking WOW this can’t be true. I posted a message in the newcomer section (which is REALLY helpful) and people took the time to welcome and respond to my questions. Here I am receiving treatment less than a month later. My out of pocket for everything (consultation with Dr. Freeman, local blood work from the lab, and medications) is under $2000 U.S.. There is simply no possible way financially or otherwise I could have done this without the knowledge that you an others have posted here. I can’t wait to beat this thing, 29 years is a long time to carry this disease.

If there is anyone else that is new and wondering if this is real….please send me a message and let me try to help as well.

Very happy for you. We need to do all we can to help the untold numbers of people in the U.S. and elsewhere and make it easier for them to find FHC. $2000 beats the hell out of $92,000.
Same drugs, great doctors, wonderful support network. Check my signature. We started a site at Delphi to help spread the word in the U.S. and dispel the anti generic rhetoric on the other Delphi HCV forum.
If and when you feel like it, share your wonderful story there.
We might snag another “lost soul” or ten.
Good Luck from Arkansas and keep us posted on your progress.
    Mike

Hi T. , im in NY and my meds came from Adam at Kingswood too, and I was clear at 4 weeks, so you’ll probably be flushing out dead virons in a few days. Amazing what Dr. Freeman and Greg Jefferys have brought about and now with people able to get them delivered to their door thru the mail! Back when I got mine the mail thing didn’t seem to be quite such a sure thing, so I called up Adam and said I would be coming in from “out of town” to pick mine up personally (loved Australia too btw, want to go back someday).

What’s crazy is that there aren’t more people accessing the cure this way if they have the dollars and are being put off by their insurance companies or told to take nasty ribavirin (like I was). Best of luck to you, I’m sure you will be feeling quite a bit better very soon!
