So…with the completion of 7 weeks of treatment – came all good things and I am feeling way better. There is no comparison actually with the “me before” with the “me during” tx.
But all pretty roses have thorns (although they don’t take away the beauty and fragrance of the flowers) …and so I got a bit unsure on how to go about the cholesterol thorn/ issue. Will it resolve by its own with EOT? Is cholesterol a real culprit still or have doctors changed their opinion about it? Just for some context… I come from a family with heart disease. My mother, her mother and her siblings all died young due heart attacks. I believe I took over my father’s genetics though and don’t think I am at risk. I also always had low BP and have no idea if it has gone up with the DAAs. Something I should check this week. As you can see my cholesterol levels did increase post initiating Tx. Vitamin D and B12 decreased on the other hand. Also I thought I had been immune to Hep A and Hep B but according to these tests the vaccines I took years ago (?!) did not make me immune to them. Another surprise this week I did not like very much.
Cholesterol levels before (on the right side) and during tx (on the left side)
Vitamin D before and during tx:
Test for Hep A and Hep antibodies (not sure what to make of them)

12 Month Labs= UND24 July 2016 at 8:39 am #21308Hi Meg,
looks very very good .
About your cholesterol level, any stress lately? As far as I know, there exist a link between stress level and cholesterol.
Or you can have a look also here : http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/dhp-mps/prodpharma/sbd-smd/drug-med/sbd_smd_2015_harvoni_173180-eng.php where it is specified that:
“Ledipasvir was well-tolerated in studies up to six months in the rat and nine months in the dog. The primary effects noted in toxicology studies were decreased weight, weight gain and food consumption and minor increases in cholesterol.”Boa saúde

SVR52 achieved24 July 2016 at 9:07 am #21311I’m sure Dr James will have some excellent input on the cholesterol numbers, Meg. Hopefully, just a passing blip on the screen. I do see that your Cortisol number is down. Not a doc, but I do know that Cortisol is a stress hormone and lower is good, so you are apparently doing a great job at keeping you stress levels down. Good for you, and for your heart!
24 July 2016 at 9:12 am #21312Oups, I missed the info about the cortisol… Thank you Fitz.
Perhaps a copy/paste error then? (106 instead of 160 ) Just kidding….RHF

I’m with fitz on this – just have another look at SVR12. There is nothing overwhelmingly urgent about cholesterol – long term high levels rust your arteries but that takes 20 years.
YMMV
26 July 2016 at 12:28 am #21391Yay good to know! Thank you so much for your input Dr Freeman.

14 September 2016 at 12:09 am #22922Hi everyone I was waiting for a SVR 4 before posting again so since my lab results just came out yesterday here I am with the VERY good news that the HCV RNA bloods came UNDETECTED!
Such a relief as these last days prior to the labs I was getting a bit paranoid and suspicious I might relapse! One of the reasons was that immediately after EOT I felt great, super great actually for about two weeks but then on weeks 3 and 4 after EOT I felt tired again and some of those pre tx pains in my joints – as well as on the soles of my feet – returned with a ” vengeance” ! OH MY!
I see now that those sides and fatigue post tx were probably part of the healing process and although I know I have to wait for SVR 12 and SVR 24 to really celebrate and consider myself cured – I am so so happy that I have come this far and so wanted to shared it with all of you.
My liver is looking pretty good too by the way so I SHOULD just relax from now and enjoy the ride until it is time for that SVR 12 test in early November.
ALT = 5
AST = 13
Alkaline Phosphastase = 44
Bilirubin Total = 0.2
Albumin = 4.2
Total Protein = 6.6Best wishes to all of you and thank you so much for your presence! Hope we all achieve SVR and that those reading this forum who are still undecided to treat with generic DAAs – please take the plunge asap because these meds really work and there is a whole new HEP C life waiting for us! xoxo

14 September 2016 at 1:15 am #22923Hi Meg
Thanks for sharing your great news achieving SVR4 is awesome you clearly have got this for sure
The LFTs are so good gosh our labs in Oz don’t even read under 9 on ALT, I have had it say <9 so you have a really specific reading there too that's the first time I have read ALT at 5. It's very interesting the differences in pathology ranges from place to place it fascinates me.
You mentioned about a few little niggles after EOT I think a few friends have felt same, I recall a bit of fatigue that I didn't expect. Considering that we are more than just our physical bodies I personally believe there's a psychological and emotional release after treatment and it could make anyone tired or anxious even.
Just my humble opinion
The main thing is you are cured and have started on the SVR road towards SVR12 which I am sure you will get just look how wonderfully healthy your liver is that's fabulous
Congrats again
