I’m sharing my story because reading other posts got me to where I am now. All thanks to FixhepC & Hepmag & those who’ve taken the time to share information.
I’ve been living w/ hepc for 34 years, Dx in 96 3a. Treatment sounded bad so I’ve waited. Not with perfect behavior either. I initially never drank but have been drinking “socially” for the last 10 years. Always with the looming awareness of flirting with disaster. At the same time I started mountain biking and my blood work actually got better & better until my ALT & AST were in range & VL 11,000. I have felt good all these years. Last labs came up some though just as I caught wind of new meds. So, I got online, found hepmag then fixhepc. Also made appt with a G.I. Who said he’d had no luck getting insurance co.s to approve Sof/Dac. The forums had warned me so I wasn’t surprised. I asked the PA if he’d order labs if I got ahold of the meds. He said yes. He also encouraged me to wait on more meds to flood the market. I thought I’d wait for my first ins. denial then take action. But a few nights later I read a post by Splitdog in the US saying he’d received his meds from Australia. I asked how I could do that & Splitdog, CC2B, & Dr Freeman gave me the feedback I needed to place my order. All that can be seen on Splitdogs thread. So, package is on its way. It’s time. Even though my labs have been pretty good, I have fatty liver & long term inflammation, and luck is bound to run out. I had a “Fibrosure” blood draw last week, but haven’t seen the results yet.
I’m hoping to hear from & follow some you as we go through treatment together. I’ll post milestones. Thanks again to those who paved the way. Best of luck to those embarking on the journey.
Cheers

SVR24 Redeemed19 January 2016 at 5:59 am #9745Hey, good for you, Mt! Glad you got your meds, and hoping for great success for you. And thanks for sharing your story.
One way or another, I’m right behind you, though a bit farther behind than I’m comfortable with (TPP – trans pacific partnership BS). If not for waiting until next Friday to see my new GI (whom my PCP tells me knows all kinds of ways to get the meds I need), I’d be pulling the trigger now. Well that, and waiting on my pre-tx bloods.
And a fibro. There’s a blood test for that?? Interesting. Maybe one of those 6 or more vials of blood I had drawn last week included that. Hmm…
Aand – but you were able to get your meds without that? All the best,

Thank you Dr. James19 January 2016 at 8:32 am #9760Hi Dude,
Fibrosure blood test can be used similar to fibroscan to determine level of fibrosis/cirrhosis and thus length of treatment required. But it only works pretreatment as once on these meds all the liver functions which it uses for diagnosis return to normal levels pretty quickly even though the fibrosis is still there.
Ideally you want to know your fibrosis level before ordering any meds but it is possible to order 12 weeks initial Tx then get your fibrosis levels checked while waiting for it to arrive so that you know if 12 weeks is enough or you will need to order a repeat script later. Most countries only allow 3 months meds to be imported at a time anyway.

SVR24 Redeemed20 January 2016 at 7:50 am #9888Hey Mtgoat I was able to track it only till it got to the US and that only took 2days. It took another week before it was delivered to my house with my regular mail through the postal service for a total of 10 days from which I placed my order.
Kingswood uses an Australian postal service. The web for tracking is http://www.auspost.com.au/track
Never could track once in the US, so got a little anxious but all was good eventually. We all know all to well how much we hate waiting, but it will be there soon. Keep us posted.

Thank you Dr. James24 January 2016 at 3:02 am #10241Welp, got the package. I thought I’d have time to do a baseline draw for VL AST ALT. But, I had them done this summer so…now that I’m holding these in my hand, I just want to get started. I’ll find out what the Fibrosure score is Monday. Plus I got an US Thursday for what it’s worth. Anyway, the war is on.
