Got back my RNA results and it was positive (Qualitative)

    6.95 E 5 /ml GT 1a

I am waiting on a referral placed about 2 weeks ago by my GP for the Hep clinic to have a liver scan and enzyme test done. Given minimal damage done and DNA test not requiring the inhibitor which treatment and for how long has the most chance at success and getting rid of this ?

    Thank you all :)

    Hello Sharmon,

With GT1a you have lots of options, all good, all with minor pros and cons. If you are low fibrosis then 12 weeks is all that is required with any of them. 8 weeks with Mavyret.

Sofosbuvir Based (in order of preference)

    1) Sovaldi (Sofosbuvir) + Daklinza (Daclatasvir) – my personal preference (low sides, good cure rate and cheapest as a generic)
    2) Harvoni (Sofosbuvir + Ledipasvir)
    3) Epclusa (Sofosbuvir + Velpatasvir)

Non-sofosbuvir based (in order of preference)

    1) Mavyret
    2) Zepatier
    3) Viekira + Ribavirin

Note that, perhaps with the exception of Zepatier, all are expected to deliver 95% cure (20:1 odds).

    What country are you in?

    YMMV

With Canada, medication coverage is a bit spotty. With any luck you will qualify under the local rules. If not generics can be shipped in directly but go for the free stuff first!

Either way you’re welcome to hang out here. Treatment can get a bit lonely given the stigma.

Nope for Ontario , criterion for possible coverage here :

HBV : exposed , cleared and immune, (co-infection makes you eligible)
HIV : No exposure (co-infection makes you eligible)
Liver : F0/F1 (F2 or higher makes you eligible)

I am just waiting for the liver scan and enzyme test and inhibitor check before ordering from here.

Good plan Sharmon, you have done your homework. Welcome aboard the adventure to wellness. I can report, 2 years later, it still feels wonderful, I still catch myself and compare to the previous 3 decades and think wow.

Finished the second GP visit today . He ordered the AST , ALT , Ferritin , (bunch of other stuff that I don’t remember. Went to the lab immediately after for testing , 4 vials and the technician was shocked at the “legit cost of treatment” and thought I was joking until she pulled up the info on her UptoDate treatment screen. 58,500.00 CAD for Harvoni at the subsidized price (for those ineligible for any reductions due to circumstances.).

Liver center called and my apt is for Feb 14 in the afternoon for the fibroscan and DNA and Qualitative baseline testing.

    Now I wait

Yes, the sticker price is pretty out there at the same as a couple of family cars.

With any luck you can access fully subsidized treatment, if not, 12 weeks generic Harvoni is $1600 Canadian.

Secondary blood test came back ALT 35 AST 53. I go for a Fibroscan on Jan 29th and should get a prescription on that day. Does the prescription have to be for the generic of can it be for the brand name itself as long as the ingredients and dosage are the same ?

You can use a brand name prescription for generics so either will do fine.

    Hi SHarmon
from the US. You have crossed all your Ts and dotted all your Is. For me, the shock of the diagnosis, the waiting, and the fight for insurance coverage were the worst parts of my Hep C experience. The treatment was a breeze. I felt normal the whole time. 12 weeks of sof/led. The insurance company wanted to do 8 weeks, but 12 is the way to go.
Good luck and listen to the Doc.
    Mike

Saw Dr. Freeman yesterday and Harvoni was the decision. This site doesn’t take Amex so I ordered a Visa from the bank and am awaiting its arrival in 8-10 days.

    Sorry about that.

Our CC processor doesn’t process Amex.

Wire transfer works fine, but so does Visa or Mastercard
