Hi Everyone. I started treatment of Sovaldi and Daclinza 3 days ago. After my second dose of meds my teeth began to really hurt and I realised that my mouth and gums are really swollen. They are puffy. Has anyone else had this problem? The pain is pretty bad and feels like I have a really bad cavity except I dont have any cavities. My cheeks are quite swollen. Looks like I have been punched in face except there are no bruises. I have stopped taking the meds today as im scared its an allergic reaction?. Should I reduce the dose? I read the Sovaldi insert and it says that swollen gums can be a side effect of this medication. No other side effects except for sore muscles. I was so excited to start treatment now not sure how to proceed? Any similar experiences appreciated. Sorry for not putting my iALP AST info on profile Ive tried and cant figure out how to add to profile. Thanks Happy lady

I’m sorry to read that you are experiencing a possible reaction since taking Solvaldi and Daclinza. Do you have a doctor monitoring you while on treatment? Did you buy your meds through Redemption? I suggest that before changing your dose you would require the appropriate medical advice. I hope someone comes along to help you very soon.

Thank-you Tim, Dr Debasis @ MonkMed & Dr Freeman @ Fix HepC5 July 2016 at 12:45 pm #20510I’m not sure where you sourced your treatment, but if it’s from MonkMed, I’d get on the phone with Tim and arrange a talk with one of their doctors. If not, and you can’t see your local specialist or GP, then I’d get an online appointment with Dr. Freeman at GP2U.
All that said, ……….. be clear that I am NOT a doctor, and you should treat everything I’m about to say as speculation ……..
I’ve come to the suspicion that Hep C creates an environment which leaves people susceptible to bacterial overgrowth … usually Candida Albicans. I suspect some of the symptoms associated with the Hep are really Candida symptoms. It would explain things like the gastric issues we see on treatment, among many others. If you have a Candida overgrowth it can also be in your mouth. You might want to talk to the doctor about that. In any case, a quick treatment with Nystatin will wipe out most of it, but you would need to use some as a rinse for your mouth. Nystatin is not absorbed into the body so can only reach what’s in your intestinal tract. For anything more advanced you would need an absorbable drug, typically fluconazole (which is hard on the liver.)Maybe Dr. Freeman will pop in here and give you some advise.
5 July 2016 at 1:34 pm #20512Hi Happylady
I’m sorry to hear about your side effects to Sovaldi + Daclinza.
I was diagnosed with genotype 2 and just finished taking 12 weeks of generic Sofosbuvir + generic Daclatasvir.
After about 4 weeks, I started getting pain in my back molars (like I had cavities), and they became sensitive to cold. One of them would throb at night and would wake me up. I read somewhere that we all should have dental check-ups before DAA treatment. For me, however, that was too late. So, I started brushing my teeth after every meal with a soft brush and then rinsed with Listerine Total Care. After about a week or so the pain went away. I continued brushing my teeth 3 times a day (became a habit) and, for the last month, only rinsing with Listerine at night & had no further problems.
I also read that you have been diagnosed with a pituitary tumour. If you are having concurrent treatment, your side effects may be magnified by the SOF + DCV reacting with the other medication that you are taking.

Not a doctor either but I would suggest seeing or talking with one as you say there is noticeable swelling of your mouth or gums and the insert recommends that course in case it is an allergy. Don’t try a reduced dose without expert advice. It may also be a candida infection and if so the doctor will tell you straight away and recommend something for it allowing you to restart treatment.

I believe, you can still contact MonkMed and pay a very affordable fee for a consultation with a Dr whether you are a patient already or not. MonkMed have been telemed Drs for travelers for some time prior to teaming up with Dr F and FixHepC . You can contact care@monkmed.com and ask if you can get an appointment. Dr Debasis is excellent if Dr Freeman isn’t around or you can’t see your consultant. Missing doses can’t be good and recommend you seek advise if you haven’t already.

You did right by stopping the meds. My guess is its an allergic reaction to the Dac. Please, see a doctor soon so you can get a proper consult. good luckA very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

12 Month Labs= UND6 July 2016 at 3:27 pm #20576Hello Happylady,
Yes it could be an drug reaction. If so stopping the drugs should see it go away and stopping them immediately was sensible.
If it does not go away then it must be something else and must be looked into. Even if it does go away it’s still possible it is, say, something you ate. I have a friend who gets that reaction from strawberries.
Assuming it goes away we get to the interesting part. To restart, or not to restart. Provided you did not get hives, wheezing, swollen tongue/throat or problems with breathing this should be safe enough.
If you restart the meds once things are settled and get the same reaction there is no doubt it’s the meds…..
I noticed you used the words Sovaldi and Daklinza so presume it’s originator medication, not that that matters. More important would be if that indicates you are GT3.
YMMV
