Here is a link to something about iron & HCV.
but most people here are getting the cure, so don’t be too concerned.
Soon everyone will hopefully be cleared of the virus.

There are different kinds of anemia:-

Iron deficiency anemia is treated by taking iron supplements.
Hemolytic anemia is the kind induced by ribavirin. Iron supplements should be avoided for this kind of anemia.

The subject has been a source of confusion for heppers, like forever.

People moralising about injecting drug use? Well yes, that goes unsaid really.

But about alcohol. Nope. I’ve never felt that anyone who told me not to drink because of hep c or a dodgy liver was doing so for moral reasons. Rather I took their advice for what it was. Cold hard scientific fact.

    Hi Chester,
    I agree.
The liver struggles enough with what the hep is doing to it, no use adding petrol to the fire.

There is one symptom I forgot to mention, and I note no-one else has.My sex drive over the last few
years plummeted from normal plus to zero minus.I note it is listed amongst the known symptoms in the book..
I wonder if others have experienced it,or if it just a topic that is taboo.

I have good news for u

I found that after taking the meds every morning erections seems to be stronger haha

Mebbe liver does affect sex performance

Thanks for educating me on the iron iissue,on which I was a little ignorant. One of my personal reasons for taking Kale was that
my diet is largely vegetarian, and Kale does have a lot of other useful vitamins and minerals.

One of the very noticeable symptoms I have had since starting tx is intensely strange and vivid dreams. It is sometimes a welcome relief to wake up.I would have been able to give Freud and Jung enough to provide a whole extra book.

Gen 1b 40yrs,tx naive, f3/f4.VL too high to quantify.
Started tx 12Oct.sof and riba India via greg.Dac from Mesochem.
4wk result virus not detected, all liver functions in normal ranges.
Only SE intermittent insomnia.Feel great and grateful otherwise

    Hi Miko,

That’s ok, the virus replicates its self using iron & also glucose, so that’s why a low GI diet’s good aswell.

Vivid dreams indicate that meds affect the nervous system directly or indirectly

I think it is due to side effects of meds. It may need some time for the body to get used it

Very close friend was on Sutent for metastatic kidney cancer and he had the most vividly disturbing, violent dreams – like horror-movie disturbing. He is now on another new type of chemo and no more crazy dreams. It wouldn’t surprise me if other meds had an effect re dreaming.

Harvoni is known to have insomia as a side effect. Vivid dreams are just a very mild form of insomia (i think)

A lot of people with hepC have anxiety. This is generally put down to having a psychological basis, ie. that they understandably worry about the consequences, the symptoms, the implications for their lives.

In the Traditional chinese Medicine system (TCM), anxiety is associated with a damp unwell liver. I am no expert in TCM but I want to suggest that the anxiety might also be organically rooted in the infected state of our livers.

If so then it’s important because it may underlie the shy, reclusive, publicity-shy nature of most of us. Which means that soon there are going to be an awful lot of people with livers that have become healthy again, and who no longer feel anxious, shy, reclusive and publicity shy. They will have recovered their nerve, along with their livers. I am seeing this already here, as the virus leaves the bodies of those on tx.

HCV affect directly and indirectly the nervous system. Anyway this is not a concern anymore. Cure is there.

Chronic infection with hepatitis C virus (HCV) is associated with a wide spectrum of extrahepatic manifestations, affecting different organ systems. Neurological complications occur in a large number of patients and range from peripheral neuropathy to cognitive impairment. Pathogenetic mechanisms responsible for nervous system dysfunction are mainly related to the upregulation of the host immune response with production of autoantibodies, immune complexes, and cryoglobulins. Alternative mechanisms include possible extrahepatic replication of HCV in neural tissues and the effects of circulating inflammatory cytokines and chemokines.
