Sad news.
This post is a tribute to moderator Gaj who lost the battle earlier this week.
Generic treatment came too late for Gaj who succumbed to complications from this dreadful disease.
I personally never met Gaj but we had some friendly chats as well as healthy robust conversations around his moderator role.Too young.
Feel free to share your tributes and memories

24 January 2018 at 1:43 pm #27300This is distressing, I hoped he was on holiday. How lucky we were to have him travelling with us! He and I started and finished treatment a few days apart. So kind, and wise. He literally was the moderator.

Yes it’s a very sad loss.
If anyone would like to share their tributes about my friend GAJ I was with him during palliative care and will share them at his funeral on your behalf; please keep them short and send by pm thanks.
I’m sorry to have to share the huge loss we now all grieve
He was peaceful.
A great man, a close friend in real life.
Words fail me just now, I know we all realise that he gave all to others and never once asked for anything. Rest In Peace my dear friend and buddy
Ariel24 January 2018 at 2:19 pm #27303I was able to speak with Guy one last time late last week. He will be missed. He was a tireless advocate for the sick, all the while being sicker than most of the people he was helping. His wonderful laugh and seemingly boundless optimism disguised his own dire situation to most of the people he advised and helped. People from all over the world-myself included-benefitted from his compassion and understanding.
I hoped to have a chance to meet him in person, but it wasn’t meant to be.
He made a difference.
The world is a lesser place with his passing.
Guy’s suffering is over.

Gaj was very supportive to me early on during my tx in 2016 and he made several recommendations privately to me about different services available at the clinic he attended.
We became friends and talked together often. I remember a person with a big voice and an enormous heart; I miss the gentleman he was. He will remain in my thoughts eternally.‘.and it’s worth remembering those for whom it came too late…’

I feel honored that I had the opportunity to know him here on Fixhepc and to have asked him several times for his advices. He was always willing to help someone, very wise and a real moderator in the true sense of the word.
@Ariel: please let people know that Gaj’s wonderful work spread all over the world and that someone here in Romania will miss him ….Cheers,
RHF
In fiecare an HCV ucide peste 500000 oameni.Medicamentele generice pentru hepatita C functioneaza. Nu deveni statistica! Cauta pe Google “medicamente generice pentru hepatita C”.
HCV kills more than 500000 people every year. HCV generic drugs work. Don’t become a statistic.

I am stunned. His insight and guidance was second to none. His wisdom will surely be missed.I thought for sure he would beat this. His encouragement was so upbeat and informative.
I wish i would have been able to shake his hand and give him a big hug one day.His contribution to the forum will definitely be missed. For new members and guests, his typed
words will be embedded on this forum forever……..RIP, my friend.

SVR2424 January 2018 at 10:48 pm #27310Very few people knew how ill he was and he didn’t let on. He got the terminal diagnosis on the same day as SVR24. Horribly ironic.
Another statistic in some worlds but not in this one.

Cured baby25 January 2018 at 1:40 am #27311Thank you so much Beaches
You are helping me to talk in a time of deep grief. Yes the evening he walked into my house and we were headed to the Liver Tonic Fundraiser and celebration (he was driving the hours to the city) and we headbanged all night to punk bands of some friends who Pat1 kindly quoted in her beautiful tribute here.GAJ was standing beside me when Sam said those words “for those for whom it came too late”
Earlier that evening when he arrived at mine he said yes I actually got SVR24, that was an enormous effort of long tx with a number of different courses of meds, that is between Doc and GAJ the things GAJ shared with me as a friend I will leave for the angels only, nobody needs to know all he went through but just know it was tough. Then as I looked at his eyes I saw that subtle sadness and said so what’s up hun? He told me the news about the cancer that has taken him from this earthly world.
He kept moderating during his radiation which failed him and then chemotherapy which debilitated and also failed him.
Throughout all the time of treatments and the worst luck at every turn GAJ was the Optimist.
Please know that he was surrounded in real life by as much love as he gave; if that is fathomable. He truly gave so much in silence, and the last taps on the phone thanking a couple of posts were actually made from palliative care after he had me help him pop just a thumb print to use his phone that was last Monday. I’m still amazed that he clearly called the nurse when I left the hospital that day (even reaching for the call button was tough) and had Help to get on the forum that one last time and tap the thank you button.
I will mention Romania of course thank you ROHCVfighter
I have tributes to read at Tuesdays farewell. Thank you to those who he was close to for your beautiful tributes.GAJ went to his eternal fishing spot so peacefully and the things that happened during the last couple of weeks were most comforting given the situation.
I know some are coming down here to attend on Tuesday
I would like to thank Mgalbrai for his private support while I was at palliative care daily and his care this week at the loss of my good mate (and his good mate) I thank Beaches and Pat1 for their support and care.
I’m sure GAJ is watching us saying oh dear I better sort this out on the forum, don’t be sad.
Farewell for now eternal optimist.
I’m privileged to count you as my friend I could not have done it without you.25 January 2018 at 1:45 am #27312Godspeed, Gaj. You will be missed…..

Thank you Dr. James25 January 2018 at 2:53 am #27313One of the things that makes the FixHepC forum a special place is the quality of its moderators. Gaj was a force of kindness, wisdom, and good humour. He has gone, but he is not far away.
The Ship, by Charles Henry BrentWhat is dying?I am standing on the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze
and starts for the blue ocean.
She is an object of beauty and strength and I stand and watch her
until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud
just where the sea and sky come down to mingle
with each other.
Then someone at my side says: ‘There! She’s gone.’
Gone where? Gone from my sight that is all.
She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she
was when she left my side,
and just as able to bear her load of living
freight to the place of destination.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her;
and just at the moment when someone at my side says:
‘There! She’s gone,’
there are others watching her coming,
and voices ready to take up the glad shout
‘There she comes!’
And that is dying.
