“Information has emerged that US Ambassador to the World Trade Organization, Michael Punke, met with representatives of 15 LDCs last Friday in Geneva, where he noted that the US could not agree to an indefinite exemption due to pressure from some US stakeholders who are upset with the US government’s intellectual property concessions on the recently-completed Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement.”

And there, in one sentence, is pure, feral corporate greed applying pressure on it’s government for all to see. <img style=ick:' />

Gilead’s APIs are made in Jordan. The tablets are made in Ireland.

Sorry LG I saw this one on my phone today and didn’t realised I hadn’t responded. Yeah well they may try but probably can only stifle. Most likely put the pressure onto Indian Pharma to only sell to Indian citizens etc. Who knows? But the Indians will always find a way to get it out to the masses and Gilead know this and hence the delay in production in India. Em

    Jordan.

I think our hepatology doctors should be told that they are prescribing drugs made in a third world country.

Yes, 100 000$ do not justify the high cost of production let say 1000$ in developed countries. They want to lower the cost to 300$ and this is possible only third world countries.

There is a lot of sofosbuvir and ledipasvir on http://www.alibaba.com/trade/search?fsb=y&IndexArea=product_en&CatId=&SearchText=sofosbuvir

    Simply we cant trust them

    hi,
Hope everyone is feeling well today,
I read this last night & thought it was relevant to this discussion, it’s about big pharma, pricing, global access to HCV meds by Els Torreele, the Director of Access to Medicines, Public Health Program, Open Society Foundations.

Really worth reading & exploring the whole blog, a lot of good links in the body of that article, also If you would like to contribute a guest post on that blog, there is a contact details there.

    from the blog:
“The unaffordability of medicines is no longer just a problem for poor people in developing countries—it is a global public health emergency. Excessive prices stand between North American and European patients and life-saving treatments. Strained health budgets lead states and insurers to delay or ration expensive medicines and increase out-of-pocket expenses. To get the drugs they need, patients must suffer serious “financial toxicity,” as cancer doctor Leonard Saltz poignantly puts it, or forego treatment altogether.

    this is part 1:
    http://blogs.plos.org/yoursay/2015/10/13/talking-about-drug-prices-access-to-medicines/

part 2 is written by a Jessica Wapner, a freelance US science writer, activist, blogger, most enjoyable reading.
Here she explains how the big pharma works out their drug pricing strategy, like how do you get from $101 – the real cost of tx with Sofo to $50000 or more depending in which country you happened to live :

    more about pricing:

from the Lancet article “Disparity in market prices for hepatitis C virus direct-acting drugs” :

The price per bottle of all originator DAAs varied substantially: for sofosbuvir it ranged from $300 (India, Pakistan) to $20 590 (Switzerland); for daclatasvir from $175 (Egypt) to $14 899 (Germany); for simeprevir from $241 (Egypt) to $14 865 (Australia); for ledipasvir-sofosbuvir from $400 (Egypt and Mongolia) to $24 890 (Germany); and for ombitasvir-paritaprevir-ritonavir (or 2D regimen) from $400 (Egypt) to $20 215 (Switzerland).

Based on my recent own experience, no shipping companies in Bangladesh allowed to ship medicines. My contact inquired DHL and EMS, no one can do it. Well, my destination is China, so yours might be different.

It has been my belief all along that the only country that will not bow to FDA and big pharma, (namely Gilead and others), is China, they’re making plenty thank you very much and the cashed up baby boomer hepers will continue to access by the 100,000s. I’m a mesochem fan and will be forever grateful and will support and promote this supply chain.. Em

You can buy Twinvir if you’re participating in The Redemption Trials as yet its
not for sale as part of The Buyers Club.

We are looking at how you can access Bangladesh directly without going through
The Buyers Club as there are many reps from Incepta, Beacon on the forum.

We are talking about this and I will post a thread shortly.
