18 March 2016 at 1:53 pm #14111Just to add to this thread at 4 weeks into treatment my V/L was <25 and it clearly mentioned on the report as VIRAL LOAD IS BELOW LLOQ NO HCV-RNA detected. I am on Harvoni from Gilead. I consider this as undetected so does the doctor.
So I guess it depends on the test. Now waiting for the EOT V/L results.
Personally I would consider <12 as undetected maybe the lab guy forgot to mention UND.
But as we all know SVR 12 AND 24 is all that matters so be it <12 or <25 its a great result which shows the medicine has CLEARLY worked or working.

isaing4@gmail.com12 April 2016 at 10:27 am #15298So is <15 in a quantitative test Undetected or not??
Doesn't say detected or undetected. I guess at least there's no point doing any more quantitative tests.

mild”12 April 2016 at 10:57 am #15299Hi FFox,
My last VL test said ‘<12 Detected but unable to quantify'
So, there is some virus detected but it's too low for the test to count. Now, it could be 11 copies or it could be 4 - Hence the confusion. Some people say the test can pick up 'dead virus' ie virus that cannot multiply or make a chain any more and somewhere I read the virus needs 10 copies to multiply. So it could be seen as UND but there's a chance it may not be gone completely (eg 11 copies ) unless it states Undetected'. Well, mine stated detected, so there is no certainty. I have read of a few people having <12 unq for a few tests in a row, then post EOT they are clear, as I say, it's a bit vague! I am still looking for the word UND so as to be sure.
Hope this makes sense!
lg xx

It’s a bit frustrating that they don’t say either undetected or detected on the results!
But either way I guess its pretty good for 32 days.
When my GP rang he said “it’s gone!” and I got all excited…but then when I got the hard copy I was back down the roller coaster.
I should have remembered he was one of the clueless.
Maybe you need to do a qualitative next, and that will give you an UND. That is what I am going to ask for when I see my specialist at the end of the month.

mild”12 April 2016 at 12:34 pm #15312Frustrating indeed FF ! Can you call the lab?
My GP has just requested VL Test, so if it comes back again <12 I'll ask him for qualitative, if he refuses, I guess I'll pay. I have 10 more weeks of treatment, so ...
Hope you get it sorted ! xx

Thank-you Tim, Dr Debasis @ MonkMed & Dr Freeman @ Fix HepC12 April 2016 at 1:05 pm #15315Yeah I might try and ring them LG.
They will probably be a bit shocked at being pestered by a patient but its worth a try.
I liked this comment I got from Archie on FB…
“If you take a quantitative out of one arm and a qualitative out of the other one will come back <15 and the other will be UND. People put to much emphasis on one word. <15 is a great result!"
Cheered me up!

mild”12 April 2016 at 1:27 pm #15316FF, your GP has told you that “it’s gone!” but the certificate you have been given doesn’t clearly state that. Your GP needs to clarify what he told you and why the certificate doesn’t state that. If that means he needs to contact the lab then that is what he should do.
But as you say, either way it is a good result and within expectations after 4 weeks.
