Hi all,
While obviously a bit disappointed I’m not disheartened thanks to all my wonderful friends here who help keep me strong and focused on the future. As others have said Gt3 can be more difficult to cure particularly if you have cirrhosis but with the new medications steadily being advanced and targeted at this problem there will be other opportunities to clear this horrible virus, hopefully very soon.

12 July 2016 at 3:02 pm #20859Hi Gaj
I’m sorry to read that the virus is detected again. The GT3a virus seems to have mutated into the boomerang genotype, as it keeps on coming back. However, SOF + VEL looks like a promising weapon to eliminate it. The most problematic NS5A RAV for this combo appears to be the Y93H variant, so hopefully your baseline tests will not find it.
Stay positive and patient. I have no doubt that you’ll eventually beat it with persistence and determination.
Best Wishes

13 July 2016 at 9:39 am #20888Hi, Gaj, sorry to hear this… Probably, you had relatively strong NS5A resistance before starting of sof-dac therapy, due to previous exposition to dac during first peg-dac-rib therapy… Such resistance may cause relapse. I dont know about retreatment data with velpatasvir after 24 weeks of dac/led therapy. If you don’t have resistance to sofosbuvir, possibly peg-sof-rib may be an another option. Probably it is better to perform mutation testing before next therapy attempt.
P.S. Is lab error possible with “false positive” result?
Probably infected in 1977

Hopefully the blood work you gave them can help you determine what ravs you have so that you can figure out what would be your next tx option is. Hopefully some of these new drugs coming out soon can eradicate these buggers.
I hope you get some answers to what direction your next move is very soon.

As you can see I’m also G3. I’m almost too scared to have follow up bloods done..I’ve read a little bit and can see G3 is a tough one to shift…I’m wondering if all G3s fail Sof/Dac treatment..
I’m really sorry if I’m sounding self indulgent or sound in any way insensitive or selfish regarding your confirmed status…

No, on the contrary the overwhelming majority are successful in achieving SVR. While G3 is often a bit more difficult to treat than the other genotypes, Sof/Dac has been the most effective treatment available for this genotype so far.
The main problems with us G3s seem to be related to cirrhosis, previous Tx, VL and length of Tx. I score very poorly on the first three so went into 24 week Tx knowing I only had a 80% likelihood of success based on previous studies. While I didn’t achieve SVR my overall health has improved in leaps and bounds putting me in a good position to do so next time.
In your case with F0, naive and low VL you had a 96-97% chance based on trial data, then you extended Tx to 16 weeks which helps even more. I understand how nervous you must feel approaching SVR but you have done everything possible and are in an excellent position to succeed. I look forward to cheering when you cross the line!

16 July 2016 at 6:46 pm #20979Gaj as a fairly new member here I have read many journeys, all are done with inspiration, determination and with a positive mindset that only those whom have this disease truly know. I applaud your journey as you will not let getting kicked off the bucking bronco stop you from your determined goal, SVR. Yes it is a frign bad deal, to say the least, when your SVR went south but from reading your posts you will not be denied. The Sof/Vel treatment looks extremely good in trials, you are here with the people who know you and support you and you have the best team with Dr James, MonkMed and GP2U….. you’ll make SVR. As one me,bet told me the other day, something I have not heard in a long long time, “we’ve got your back”! You will succeed because we won’t let you leave here without SVR!
