Chalk up another win for Mesochem !
After 24 weeks of their well known and highly regarded sofosbuvir and ledipasvir, followed by 12 weeks of stressful waiting, my GP finally gave me a request for a VL test. The results are now to hand, and it says ‘NOT DETECTED’. That is SVR12. And that is officially cured!
And just as well. After the opposition and white-anting I got from my friendly local liver clinic about generics, I didn’t bother to mention to them that I was treating myself with ‘Chinese rat poison’. So I’m still on the waiting list for PBS treatment. I don’t know what this “PBS roll out” is all about, but it certainly hasn’t yet rolled as far as Adelaide.
The closest I’ve got to PBS treatment was last March, when the liver clinic called me in for an interview and the great big specialist told me that when I got to the head of the queue he was going to treat me with 12 weeks of Harvoni and ribavirin. “But don’t worry about the ribavirin” he said “It doesn’t have any side effects. You only felt sick last time because of the interferon”. Yeah, right.
Thank dog I never have to deal with that bunch of quacks again.

Hep C RNA NOT DETECTED”17 June 2016 at 9:07 am #19307Hi PKQ
Congratulations.
A much deserved self- treating win against HCV with that cheap and nasty “Chinese Rat Poison” stuff.
I’ve been referred to a liver clinic and they’ve told me they will schedule an appointment when they get around to it. Who knows when? So, it’s not just Adelaide with a long queue for PBS HCV DAA treatment. In the words of another forum member, Beaches, they can all go to the far queue.
“Don’t worry about the Ribavirin … it doesn’t have any side effects” … is straight out medical negligence. They have a duty of care to fully inform patients of all known side effects. Ribavirin’s list of side effects is longer than Chopper Reads rap sheet.
Cheers

I had a very uninformed registrar trying to peddle interferon to me at a liver clinic a few months before I started taking generics. I know which one is the rat poison……17 June 2016 at 11:59 am #19336 -
